Job Description
Summary: True Environmental is a leading environmental and engineering services consulting firm. As a Groundwater Modeling Intern, you will assist with numerical groundwater model development, data analysis, and technical reporting, gaining hands-on experience in groundwater flow modeling.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in building, calibrating, and running numerical groundwater flow models using MODFLOW or similar platforms
- Support collection, organization, and QA/QC of hydrogeologic data (water levels, aquifer parameters, pumping rates, etc.)
- Help prepare model input datasets, grid construction, and boundary condition assignments under senior staff guidance
- Assist with pre-processing of model inputs and post-processing/visualization of model outputs using tools such as Groundwater Vistas and ArcGIS
- Support preparation of technical memoranda, model reports, and figures documenting modeling methods and results
- Participate in literature review and data gathering on site geology, hydrogeology, and regulatory frameworks
- Collaborate with project teams on groundwater resources projects
- Assist with sensitivity analyses and predictive scenario runs
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with project quality assurance and safety protocols
- All other duties as required
Required Qualifications:
- Working toward a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Civil/Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field
- Coursework in groundwater hydrology, hydrogeology, fluid mechanics, or numerical methods
- Familiarity with groundwater modeling concepts such as Darcy's Law and the Theis non-equilibrium equation
- Basic exposure to modeling software (MODFLOW-based platforms, Groundwater Vistas, or similar) through coursework or self-study
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Python, R, or MATLAB for data processing
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, or Environmental/Civil Engineering
- Previous experience with MODFLOW-family of codes or commercial groundwater modeling GUIs (e.g., GMS, Groundwater Vistas, ModelMuse)
- Experience with ArcGIS software for spatial data management and figure preparation
- Prior internship or research experience at an environmental consulting firm or regulatory agency
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary project team
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills for managing model files and datasets
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
