Job Description
Summary: Trepp is the leading provider of information, analytics and technology to the CMBS, commercial real estate and banking markets. As a Data Engineer II, you will be responsible for building and maintaining robust data ingestion and pipeline frameworks, ensuring platform stability, and contributing to high-impact project implementations.
Responsibilities:
- Build & Enhance: Collaborate with senior engineers to build, maintain, and scale our core data ingestion and pipeline frameworks
- Own the Architecture: Dive deep into our platform’s design to contribute meaningfully to technical discussions and high-impact project implementations
- Ship Quality Code: Translate complex technical requirements into clean, testable, and scalable Python code and data workflows
- Innovate & Research: Participate in "Proof of Concept" (PoC) initiatives to test-drive new open-source tools and cutting-edge methodologies
- Stability First: Champion engineering best practices—like robust unit testing and thorough documentation—to keep the platform rock-solid as we grow
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field
- 1–3 years of experience in data or software engineering. We highly value relevant internships, research assistantships, or significant academic projects as part of this experience
- Strong proficiency in Python (preferred), Java, or Scala, with an emphasis on writing clean, testable code
- Solid understanding of SQL and relational database concepts and data modeling
- Familiarity with Git workflows, SDLC, and basic CI/CD principles
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to explain the 'why' behind your technical decisions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with AWS services (S3, Lambda, EMR, or Glue)
- Hands-on experience or academic exposure to Apache Spark
- Interest or experience with LLMs and AI-driven data workflows
