Signal Maintainer

Union Railroad is seeking a Signal Maintainer to join the Signals & Communications Department in Duquesne, Pennsylvania. This position is responsible for the installation, inspection, testing, repair, and maintenance of railroad signal systems, communication systems, and grade crossing protection equipment to ensure safe and efficient railroad operations.
Responsibilities
• Safely perform all assigned duties in accordance with company policies and railroad operating rules.
• Perform work on signal equipment, including electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
• Install signal and communication structures and components.
• Inspect, test, repair, and maintain signal, communication, and electrical equipment.
• Lubricate moving parts on mechanical equipment, including switch machines, car retarders, and controllers.
• Use the risk management process to identify and isolate potentially hazardous situations.
• Prepare and paint signal equipment as required.
• Ensure compliance with all railroad operating rules, safety regulations, and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) requirements.
• Drive and operate medium- and heavy-duty vehicles and obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) as required.
• Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Minimum of one year of outdoor and industrial work experience required.
• Electronic vocational training or trade school education preferred.
• Ability to operate manual, pneumatic, and electrically powered tools used in signal maintenance and repair.
• Strong commitment to safety and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
The successful candidate must be able to:
• Walk extended distances over uneven and irregular terrain.
• Lift and carry more than 50 pounds.
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Meet and comply with manufacturer's weight limitations, safety ratings, and recommendations for equipment used in the performance of duties, including portable and fixed ladders, fall protection equipment, and fall arrest systems.
Pre-Employment Requirements
As a safety-sensitive railroad position, successful candidates must satisfactorily complete all pre-employment requirements, including:

• Meeting applicable railroad hearing and vision acuity standards
Work Environment
This position is performed in an active railroad and industrial environment around moving equipment, signals, vehicles, and other heavy machinery. Employees must maintain strict adherence to all safety rules, operating procedures, and regulatory requirements while working in a fast-paced environment.
