Role Overview
Under general supervision, plans, conducts, and supervises complex accounting activities relating to the maintenance of a complete and accurate general ledger and the resultant managerial reports and financial statements for Reinsurance Accounting.
Key Responsibilities
Compile and analyze financial information to prepare reports regarding facultative, treaty, and excess of loss coverages for reinsurance programs
Lead the preparation, approval, and audit of financial documents to ensure journal entries are properly entered into the accounting system
Review and audit reinsurance agreements entered into financial systems for Underwriting, Claims, and Accounting use
Assist in preparation and review of quarterly and annual statutory filings on both a consolidated and company basis
Prepare internal summaries of assumed and ceded business and compile data related to commutations and liquidations
Communicate and reinforce reinsurance accounting policies, practices, and procedures
Review and approve forms and reports prepared by team members for accuracy and completeness
Assist with banking activities including letters of credit and collateral management
Proactively resolve reconciliation items related to reinsurer balances
Update profit commission and sliding scale calculations

What You Bring
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent education and/or experience
Certifications
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred
Experience
6 years of relevant and progressive professional experience in Accounting and/or Finance
Additional Qualifications
Experience preparing consolidated financial statements
Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Statutory Accounting Principles
Ability to apply broad knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and procedures
Excellent written and verbal communications skills with emphasis on confidentiality, tact, and diplomacy
Exceptional organizational and analytical skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
Knowledge of industry changes, legal updates, and technical developments related to applicable business areas
Advanced proficiency using Microsoft Office Package (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word)
Travel (if required/needed)
Occasional travel (up to 10% of time)
