About The Role

Every Thndr user passes through our systems before their first trade: signing up, verifying their identity, getting approved, logging in securely. Our ownership extends well beyond the initial user journey, covering Savings and Thndr Gold, the forthcoming Thndr Card and real estate products, the client domain, user profiles and the entire engagement pipeline.

We run around twenty services across Egypt and the UAE, several of them Tier 1. That makes operational excellence non-negotiable. We treat reliability, monitoring and incident response as part of the job.

The most interesting part is the product side. Savings and Gold are ours end to end, and real estate is next. A gram of gold is an instrument, an order, a custody record and a ledger entry, all handled through our back office. We build the layer on top: a domain model clean enough to turn a trading instrument into a product where someone buys gold, or a slice of a building, without seeing any of that.

The work is broad. One minute you’re building an OAuth flow for a third party integration; the next you’re integrating an AML service provider for a new product with its own hosting and security requirements; a third time you’re arguing with policy on how to keep the experience smooth under new compliance demands.

We sit between product teams shipping new features, operations and finance teams who live with what we build, and back office squads whose capabilities we build on top of. We’re looking for a senior engineer to own a subset of these domains: to know them better than anyone, decide where they go next, and be accountable for their health.

What You'll Do

• Own part of our domains end to end. You lead the projects in them, you set the technical direction, and you are accountable for their service health; latency, error rates, on-call, and the slow accumulation of debt that nobody else is watching.

• Lead cross squad projects. Break down ambiguous product asks into a plan, sequence the work, pull in the people you need, unblock them, and ship it. Senior here means the project moves forward, not that the hardest function gets written.

• Design systems that scale and degrade gracefully. Our services sit in front of every user on the platform and depend on third parties that time out, rate limit, and occasionally disappear. You build for that reality: idempotency, retries, sensible fallbacks, and failure that is contained instead of cascading.

• Raise the bar on quality and operational discipline. Promote our observability culture, favor small and independently shippable PRs and define measurable and achievable SLOs to our critical flows.

• Work close to the product. You will sit with product, design, and data teams to argue about what should be built and why, not just how. Pushing back on a bad requirement is part of the job.

• Partner with operations, CX, and compliance, who rely on what you build to open accounts, resolve user issues, and keep us on the right side of regulators in every market we operate in.

• Help bring our domains to new markets as we expand beyond Egypt, UAE and the US.

What You'll Need

• Experience with distributed systems and a clear understanding of how to build systems that scale and how they behave when a dependency is slow, a queue backs up, or a deploy goes out mid-flight.

• Impact-driven and product-minded. At the end of the day we are building a product for a large user base, so we need someone who thinks about the product first, not just the technical side. The best technical decision for a user funnel is not always the most interesting one.

• Project management and leadership skills. Scoping, sequencing, communicating status, and bringing other engineers along with you are core skills of a senior here, not a bonus.

• Confidence owning systems end to end, from design through production and on-call. You care not just about writing the code, but about how it behaves once real users are on it, and when incidents happen, you find the root cause quickly, contain the impact, unblock affected users and put lasting fixes in place.

• Familiarity with our stack, or the confidence to get there quickly: Python, FastAPI, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ, Redis, and Kubernetes.

• Experience in fintech is appreciated — enough awareness of domain-critical flows involving money, identity, and regulation to know which mistakes are expensive and which are merely annoying.

• Strong communication across teams. We need someone who can hold their own with other engineers and work closely with the product, operations, and compliance teams who rely on what you build.

Who Are We?

Thndr was founded on a bold dream to democratize access to investing through smart tech and human-centric design. This is simply our way of saying we give anyone with a smartphone the simple and easy access they need to preserve and grow their wealth. At the same time, we’re shaping the future of investing while actively driving the economies we serve by promoting local investment products.

History has shown that investing is the single greatest way to build long-term wealth, but before Thndr, only a very small percentage of people had access to it due to:

• High barriers to entry — In the form of excessive minimum account balances, complex, outdated onboarding, and low financial literacy.
• Irrelevant experience — Catered toward expert traders and financial specialists, therefore alienating the majority of the population.
• Fragmented offering — Investment products were not gathered in a single, intuitive outlet.

We don't just talk about change, we deliver it. Here's a glimpse into our impact so far:

• 5.5 million app downloads
• EGP 1B+ average daily traded value across 2025
• #1 digital investing platform in Egypt for the third consecutive year
• 76% of users are first-time investors
• 40% of our users come from outside of capital cities and have previously had limited access to financial institutions

Building on the success of our core platform, we are continuing to change culture and break down barriers by launching Rumble, the subscription-based investment recommendations platform.

Rumble was born with the vision to empower everyday individuals to build wealth confidently and intelligently through access to timely and in-depth advice from the industry’s top experts.

Going beyond traditional investment advice, it offers long and short-term investment recommendations and financial content through engaging articles and videos that guide users on their financial journey and maximize their returns.

At Thndr, we're looking for people driven by our mission to help us democratize investing across the MENA region.
