Summary: Thermo Fisher Scientific is a leading global contract research organization dedicated to making the world healthier, cleaner, and safer. They are seeking an Associate Scientist to join their Biologics Sample Management team, where the candidate will be responsible for managing and preparing biologic samples to support research and drug discovery efforts. Responsibilities: - Adapting scientific knowledge to resolve problems encountered in achieving defined goals with support from line manager or other team members as required to meet internal and project deadlines - Review and follow laboratory procedures and policies for operating functions of the laboratory - Demonstrating full command of all techniques and tools required for assigned responsibilities within the given project - Ensuring the conduction of safe working practices - Sample management activities such as: - Acquisition of new samples - Sample registration & data entry - Aliquoting - Aseptic handling techniques - QC - Standard molecular biology techniques such as: - Plasmid DNA preparation, sequencing, sequence analysis - Standard nucleic acid analytical/QC methods - Analytical techniques - Automated liquid handling - Optional but not required: familiarity with establishing laboratory automation platforms and writing methods - Optional, but not required: experience with Titian Mosaic or other Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) systems - Take responsibility to maintain laboratory records, reports and files - The ability to independently manage and resolve technical problems - Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives, implement approved policies and procedures - To provide support to colleagues where necessary with regard to equipment or technical requirements for projects being carried out - Other duties as assigned may be required to ensure the smooth running of the laboratories Required Qualifications: - Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship - Must be able to pass a comprehensive background check, which includes a drug screening - Bachelor's degree in lab sciences such as Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biology, or similar - Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 0-2 years' for Assoc Scientist or 2-4 years' for Scientist) - OR Masters - Ability to independently manage and resolve technical problems - Ability to maintain excellent laboratory records - Good verbal communication skills - Ability to repeatedly lift and bend with the ability to lift up to 50lbs over head when needed - Computer proficiency - Strong attention to detail and excellent communication skills - Ability to work accurately and with attention to detail - Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with other scientific staff - Able to work well independently, and as part of a team - Strong organizational and time management skills - Self-motivated, enthusiastic, cooperative and reliable - The ability to be flexible and adapt to changing demands and processes whilst operating under pressure to meet deadlines - Able to communicate, receive, and understand information and ideas with diverse groups of people in a comprehensible and reasonable manner - Able to work upright and stationary and/or standing for typical working hours - Able to lift and move objects up to 25 pounds - Able to work in non-traditional work environments - Able to perform successfully under pressure while prioritizing and handling multiple projects or activities Preferred Qualifications: - Familiarity with establishing laboratory automation platforms and writing methods - Experience with Titian Mosaic or other Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) systems - Prior experience with protein sample management & QC techniques - Prior experience working with oligonucleotide and cell line samples - Experience with automated liquid handling - Experience with analytical techniques Required Skills: Protein sample management, Quality control techniques, Molecular biology techniques, Plasmid DNA preparation, DNA sequencing, Sequence analysis, Nucleic acid analytical methods, Automated liquid handling, Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS), Aseptic handling techniques, Sample registration and data entry Benefits: A choice of national medical and dental plans, and a national vision plan, including health incentive programs, Employee assistance and family support programs, including commuter benefits and tuition reimbursement, At least 120 hours paid time off (PTO), 10 paid holidays annually, paid parental leave (3 weeks for bonding and 8 weeks for caregiver leave), accident and life insurance, and short- and long-term disability in accordance with company policy, Retirement and savings programs, such as our competitive 401(k) U.S. retirement savings plan, Employees’ Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) offers eligible colleagues the opportunity to purchase company stock at a discount
