WANTED: Graduate Assistant - Research
THE WRITING CENTER, DEPARTMENT OF LITERATURE & LANGUAGES
The Writing Center has an opening for a MA or PhD GAR for Fall 2026. We will be hiring for one position, Writing Center Graduate Consultant. GARs will work twenty hours a week at the Writing Center.
Writing Center Graduate Consultant (GAR) Salary $8K
Writing Center Graduate Consultant duties include:
- Training to be a Writing Center Consultant through:
- Readings in literacy studies and writing center studies
- Performing original qualitative research on our writing center
- Composing a chapter in our Handbook that explores issue in writing center studies that is relevant to our writing center
- Presenting original research on writing centers at the Annual Research Symposium and, time and funding permitting, applying to present at other conferences, like the South Central Writing Center Association Conference
- Supporting writers in 45min, one-on-one consultation sessions (once training is complete)
- Assisting with the day-to-day running of the Writing Center (greeting and checking in writers; answering the phone, responding to email inquiries, changing and canceling appointments, and other associated duties as required)
- Drafting, revising, and/or editing Writing Center projects
- Organizing a database for Writing Center resources
- Producing a Writing Center introduction video
- Preparing marketing and social media content
- Representing the Writing Center at campus events
- Creating a Writing Center historical archive
Job Requirements:
- Must be a Masters or PhD student at East Texas A&M University, and preference will be given to those in the College of Humanities, Social Sciences and Arts
- Must not hold any other graduate assistantship
- Must be able to work in-person from the East Texas A&M University main campus
