About the Pankhurst Trust (incorporating Manchester Women's Aid)
The Pankhurst Trust brings together The Pankhurst Centre and Manchester Women's Aid.
We work together to ensure the story of the women who won the vote continues to inspire us all, and to ensure that those experiencing domestic violence and abuse get the confidential help they need. We are a group of female champions, empowering women across Manchester and beyond.
About the role
As our Domestic Abuse Worker (Referral Line), you will play a key role in ensuring ensuring people affected by domestic abuse can access the right support at the right time. Working within a trauma-informed framework, you will respond to enquiries, provide information and signposting, make appropriate referrals, and ensure safeguarding and risk concerns are identified and escalated.
You will also support and guide volunteers delivering the referral line, maintain up-to-date knowledge of local services and referral pathways, and work collaboratively with colleagues and partner agencies to strengthen access to support.
This is a varied and rewarding role, ideal for someone who is compassionate and approachable, communicates sensitively, and can balance empathy with sound professional judgement, effective safeguarding practice and good attention to detail.
What you'll be doing
- Responding to referral line enquiries sensitively, safely and in line with agreed processes.
- Gathering relevant information to understand people's needs and identify appropriate support.
- Making referrals and providing accurate, appropriate signposting to partner organisations and services.
- Recognising safeguarding and risk concerns and escalating these appropriately.
- Supporting, guiding and supervising volunteers involved in delivering the referral line.
- Contributing to volunteer induction and ongoing training around safeguarding, confidentiality, professional boundaries and referral pathways.
- Maintaining accurate, timely and confidential records.
- Keeping up to date with local services, referral partners and routes into support.
- Sharing changes and updates with volunteers and colleagues across PTMWA.
- Contributing to the review and improvement of referral line processes, guidance and resources.
- Building positive relationships with colleagues, volunteers and external partners.
- Contributing to wider partnership working, community engagement and organisational activities.
- Providing cover within refuge accommodation when required and within the scope of the role.
- Taking part in supervision, training and reflective practice.
About you
We are looking for someone who is compassionate, approachable and able to communicate with people sensitively, particularly when they may be experiencing difficult or challenging circumstances.
You will ideally have experience of supporting people and an understanding of the impact domestic abuse can have on women, children and families. You will have an understanding of safeguarding and be confident recognising concerns, following procedures and knowing when to seek advice or escalate an issue.
You will be a great fit for this role if you can:
- Listen carefully, ask appropriate questions and provide clear, helpful information.
- Communicate sensitively and effectively with a wide range of people.
- Build positive and professional relationships with volunteers, colleagues and external organisations.
- Remain calm and use sound judgement when dealing with sensitive or challenging situations.
- Follow agreed processes while recognising when you need to ask for help or escalate a concern.
- Maintain accurate records and use basic digital systems confidently.
- Learn new information quickly and keep your knowledge of services and referral pathways up to date.
- Maintain professional boundaries, confidentiality and appropriate information-sharing practices.
