Job Description
Summary: The New York Times is a leading journalism organization committed to independent reporting and helping people understand the world. They are looking for an Associate Software Engineer to join the Scoop Core team, focusing on empowering product teams with a modern content management platform and maintaining legacy publishing systems.
Responsibilities:
- Take on multiple technical tasks not limited to programming, such as working with Cloud services, platforms and APIs
- Write unit tests, integration tests and user documentation
- Assist other teams to onboard to our platform
- Maintain existing legacy systems
- Collaborate and learn through pairing, design reviews, and code reviews
- Collaborate with Product Management and other professionals within your team and across the organization
- Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world
Required Qualifications:
- Familiarity with relational (like SQL/MySQL, PostgreSQL) databases
- Familiarity with the development process, including methodologies like Agile and Scrum
- Experience with unit and integration testing
- Familiarity building backend systems
- Familiarity with AI coding tools
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in Golang, GraphQL and tooling
- Experience in deployments and services on cloud platforms
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for container and deployment orchestration
- Experience with AI/LLMs
