Job Description
AMI is looking for a talented and detail-oriented Akan or Twi Translator to support the accurate and culturally relevant translation of learning and programme materials from English to Akan or Twi. This role is critical in ensuring that AMI’s content reaches and resonates with Akan or Twi-speaking audiences across Africa — preserving not just the words, but the meaning, tone, and intent behind every resource.
The ideal candidate is a language professional who combines linguistic precision with cultural sensitivity, and who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced content environment. They bring hands-on experience with CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tools such as MateCat, leveraging translation memory and terminology management to ensure consistency, efficiency, and quality across all AMI materials.
Roles and responsibilities
- Translation: Accurately translate resources from English to Akan or Twi, while preserving the content’s context, style, and tone.
- Proofreading: Thoroughly edit translated materials to ensure language accuracy and consistency.
- Cultural Adaptation: Ensure that the translated materials are culturally relevant and appropriate for the intended audience.
- Quality Assurance: Perform quality checks on translated content and make necessary revisions to maintain standards of quality.
- Collaboration: Effectively collaborate with the content development team and other stakeholders to ensure communication and teamwork.
- Technology Familiarity: Utilise translation software and tools to improve efficiency and accuracy in the translation process.
- Meeting Deadlines: Effectively prioritize translation assignments to meet project deadlines.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Languages, Communications, or a related field.
- Proven experience in professional translation, preferably English ↔ Akan or Twi.
- Excellent command of both English and Akan or Twi, with strong grammar, spelling, and editing skills.
- Strong understanding of cultural nuances to ensure accurate and context-sensitive translations.
- Detail-oriented with strong proofreading and quality assurance skills.
- Proficient in CAT (Computer-Assisted Translation) tools such as MateCat, with practical experience using translation memory and terminology management to ensure consistency and efficiency across projects.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining clear communication with teams and stakeholders.
- Strong time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
