Summary: Texas Parks and Wildlife Department is dedicated to managing and conserving Texas's natural and cultural resources. They are seeking interns to assist with field data collection, data entry, and research related to wildlife conservation, particularly focusing on Species of Greatest Conservation Need. Responsibilities: - Assisting in all facets of field data collection, data entry, and science products - Reviewing past and ongoing literature about Species of Greatest Conservation Need (SGCN) plants - Assisting with data entry and/or research on SGCN plants and the development of conservation status assessments using the NatureServe methodologies - Performing field work activities under harsh field conditions in hot and/or humid climates with biting insects - Performing additional duties as assigned - Complying with Agency, Division and Department rules, regulations, and procedures Required Qualifications: - Current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student in an accredited college or university or recent graduate with a bachelor's degree or higher within the last 6 months - Minimum of 18 completed semester credit hours from an accredited college or university at time of application - Must have an overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 grade point scale or 'Pass' on a Pass/Fail system - Must possess a valid state driver's license Preferred Qualifications: - Current undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited college or university in a Wildlife Science or closely related Bachelor's degree program - Coursework in Ecology, Conservation Biology, or Botany - Experience in wildlife research and field biology techniques - Familiarity with basic plant taxonomy - Experience with data entry, databases and mapping systems Required Skills: Wildlife research, Field biology techniques, Ecology Important Skills: Conservation Biology, Botany, Data entry, Mapping software Nice-to-Have Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, Communication skills, Confidentiality Benefits: Generous paid time off, Group insurance, Retirement and pension, Frequent training and staff development opportunities, Longevity pay, Merit pay, Deferred compensation, Flexible benefit plans, 401K/457 retirement plans, Direct deposit, Staggered work hours, Employee Assistance Program, Return-to-Work Program, Health insurance is available on the 1st of the following month after a 60-day waiting period
