Job Description
Summary: Teradyne is a global leader in test and automation solutions, ensuring that electronic devices work correctly. The Optical Engineer will support the development of advanced optical systems, engaging in design, laboratory validation, and product integration while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities:
- Support the design and analysis of optical systems, including lenses, illumination, detectors, lasers, and optomechanical components
- Perform hands‑on laboratory work, including optical alignment, characterization, and troubleshooting of prototype systems
- Assist with system modeling and performance analysis using optical simulation and data analysis tools
- Execute engineering experiments, including data collection, analysis, and documentation of results
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to support system integration, debugging, and product development
- Contribute to verification, validation, and qualification activities for optical system performance
Required Qualifications:
- 0-2 years of experience in optical engineering with a focus on developing innovative technical solutions and getting products to market
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
- Foundational experience with optical systems, photonics, or optoelectronic devices through coursework, research, or internships
- Hands‑on laboratory experience with optical alignment, measurement, and experimental data collection
- Basic understanding of optical principles such as imaging, diffraction, polarization, and radiometry
- Familiarity with optical design, simulation, or data analysis tools (e.g., Zemax, Code V, MATLAB, Python)
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills with the ability to work in a collaborative environment
