Overview
TekSynap is seeking a Systems Engineer to support the Infrastructure Solutions Team by designing, deploying, operating, and maintaining enterprise infrastructure supporting production services, customer research environments, proof-of-concept platforms, and internal engineering initiatives. This role is responsible for maintaining core infrastructure while researching, evaluating, and implementing new technologies that support TekXlerate and Infrastructure Solutions programs.
The ideal candidate is a technically curious engineer who enjoys solving complex problems, learning new technologies, and working across multiple infrastructure disciplines. Success in this role requires strong technical documentation, effective communication, and a commitment to continuous learning.

Responsibilities & Qualifications
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Systems Engineer is expected to balance operational support with engineering innovation by maintaining reliable infrastructure while designing and implementing new technical capabilities that support customer missions and organizational objectives.
Responsibilities will vary based on project assignments and business needs. Engineers are expected to balance operational support with research, implementation, and continuous improvement activities.
Infrastructure Engineering
Deploy, configure, and maintain enterprise virtualization platforms
Build, administer, and troubleshoot Windows and Linux operating systems
Configure enterprise storage and backup solutions
Manage enterprise identity services including Microsoft Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID
Administer core infrastructure services including DNS, DHCP, PKI, file services, and authentication
Monitor infrastructure performance and respond to system alerts and operational issues
Support enterprise networking infrastructure and associated services
Research & Innovation
Research emerging infrastructure technologies and industry best practices
Design and deploy proof-of-concept environments
Evaluate hardware and software platforms for customer and internal use
Develop technical recommendations based on testing and analysis
Support customer demonstrations and technology evaluations
Document evaluation results and present technical recommendations to stakeholders
Cloud & Hybrid Infrastructure
Deploy and administer cloud infrastructure across public and private cloud platforms
Support hybrid identity and authentication services
Integrate cloud services with on-premises infrastructure
Automation & Infrastructure as Code
Automate operational tasks using scripting and infrastructure automation tools
Develop reusable deployment templates and automation workflows
Improve operational efficiency through automation
Support Infrastructure-as-Code practices where appropriate
Security & Compliance
Implement secure system configuration
Support vulnerability management and remediation
Maintain operating system, application, and infrastructure patch levels
Support identity, access, and security best practices
Documentation & Knowledge Management
Develop technical standards and operational procedures
Produce architecture documentation
Maintain build guides
Create operational runbooks
Document lessons learned
Engineering Collaboration
Collaborate with architects, project teams, and customers to deliver technical solutions
Translate technical requirements into deployable infrastructure solutions
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent experience
3-5 years of experience administering enterprise infrastructure
Windows and Linux server administration
Experience administering enterprise virtualization platforms
TCP/IP networking
Experience deploying and integrating enterprise applications
Experience developing automation using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages
Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure issues across multiple technology domains
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to prioritize competing operational and project requirements
Ability to learn unfamiliar technologies quickly
Ability to manage multiple engineering efforts simultaneously
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience supporting research, laboratory, or proof-of-concept environments
Identity management (Active Directory, EntraID)
Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, Google Cloud)
Containerization platforms (Kubernetes, Docker)
Support enterprise networking technologies and services
VMware Cloud Foundation
CompTIA Security+
