Job Description
The Raw Material Inventory Manager is responsible for overseeing the receipt, storage, tracking, and availability of all raw materials used in the metal fabrication process. This role ensures accurate inventory levels, proper material identification, and timely supply to production to support efficient workflow and on-time delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all raw materials including sheet, plate, tubing, and structural steel
- Verify incoming shipments against purchase orders for accuracy in quantity, grade, and specifications
- Create and maintain accurate inventory records
- Ensure proper labeling, tagging, and traceability of materials (heat numbers, certs, etc.)
- Organize and maintain warehouse and yard storage for safe and efficient material handling
- Coordinate with purchasing to maintain optimal stock levels and prevent shortages or overstock
- Work closely with production to ensure material availability
- Monitor material usage and scrap to identify waste or discrepancies
- Conduct regular cycle counts and full inventory audits
- Manage material certifications and ensure documentation is properly filed and retrievable
- Oversee material handling equipment usage (forklifts, cranes) in a safe manner
- Train and supervise material handlers or receiving personnel if applicable
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree preferred
- 3+ years of inventory or metals warehouse management experience (metal fabrication preferred)
- Strong understanding of raw materials used in fabrication (steel types, thicknesses, grades)
- Experience with ERP systems and inventory tracking
- Ability to read purchase orders, material certs, and shop paperwork
- Basic computer skills (Excel, email, inventory systems)
- Forklift experience required (certification preferred)

Physical Requirements

Work Environment
- Combination of warehouse, shop floor, and office settings
- Exposure to moving equipment, overhead cranes, and fabrication processes
- Must follow all safety policies and PPE requirements
