Summary The Welder is responsible for performing high-quality welding on piping systems, components, and related equipment in industrial construction, maintenance, turnaround, and outage environments. This position performs welds in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), applicable codes and standards, drawings, specifications, and customer requirements. The Welder works with various pipe sizes, schedules, materials, and welding processes and must consistently produce welds that meet required quality and inspection standards. Work is primarily performed in refineries, petrochemical and chemical facilities, power generation facilities, fabrication shops, and other industrial environments. |

Minimum Qualifications - Experience in refinery, petrochemical, chemical, power generation, or other heavy industrial environments.
- Working knowledge of mechanical, piping, welding, structural, or other applicable industrial craft activities.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, P&IDs, isometrics, and work packages relevant to assigned work.
- Knowledge of applicable OSHA, Company, customer, and site-specific safety requirements.
- NCCER or other applicable craft certifications preferred.
- Must successfully pass all applicable weld test(s) required for the position, project, welding process, material, and/or customer prior to performing production welding.
- Must maintain applicable welder qualifications in accordance with Company, customer, project, and code requirements
- Ability to travel and work overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended shifts as operational needs dictate.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - Knowledge of industrial pipe welding practices, techniques, equipment, and terminology.
- Knowledge of SMAW and GTAW welding processes and associated equipment.
- Knowledge of pipe materials, sizes, schedules, fittings, joints, and welding positions.
- Understanding WPS requirements, welding variables, filler metals, electrodes, preheat, and interpass temperature requirements.
- Ability to produce welds that meet applicable code, customer, and project acceptance criteria.
- Ability to identify common weld defects and take appropriate corrective action.
- Ability to properly prepare and clean pipe and weld joints before, during, and after welding.
- Ability to read piping isometrics, drawings, specifications, and weld identification information.
- Ability to safely operate welding machines, grinders, torches, and other tools associated with pipe welding.
- Ability to perform basic measurements and craft mathematics.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work effectively with Pipefitters, Foremen, QC Inspectors, and other craft personnel.

Essential Functions - Perform welding on piping systems, fittings, flanges, and related components in accordance with approved WPSs, drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
- Perform SMAW, GTAW, and other welding processes for which the employee is qualified.
- Weld carbon steel and other materials within the employee's approved qualifications.
- Perform pipe welds in required positions and configurations based on project requirements.
- Verify joint preparation, alignment, cleanliness, and fit-up prior to welding.
- Select and properly use electrodes, filler metals, welding equipment, and consumables in accordance with the applicable WPS.
- Maintain required welding parameters, including amperage, voltage, travel speed, preheat, and interpass temperatures as applicable.
- Inspect completed welds for visible defects and workmanship prior to formal QC inspection.
- Perform grinding, cleaning, preparation, and minor weld repairs as authorized and required.
- Coordinate with Pipefitters to ensure proper fit-up and alignment prior to welding.
- Work with QC personnel during weld inspection, testing, documentation, and repair activities.
- Maintain welder identification and traceability requirements as established by project and quality procedures.
- Follow requirements associated with weld maps, weld numbers, material identification, and applicable quality documentation.
- Safely set up, inspect, operate, and maintain welding machines, leads, grounds, torches, grinders, and related equipment.
- Follow hot-work permitting, fire prevention, confined-space, fall-protection, respiratory-protection, and other applicable safety requirements.
- Support other crafts, work activities, and operational needs as assigned based on project and business requirements. Employees may be required to perform duties outside their primary craft as part of TIG’s multi-craft work environment, provided they are trained, qualified, and authorized to safely perform the assigned work.
- Participate in pre-job meetings, Job Safety Analyses/Job Hazard Analyses, toolbox talks, and required safety activities.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support project, customer, and operational needs.

Physical Demands - Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, reach, and work in various positions for extended periods.
- Ability to walk and work on uneven terrain, gravel, concrete, grating, scaffolding, and other industrial surfaces.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders and work from elevated platforms or scaffolding.
- Ability to perform welding in restricted, awkward, overhead, and confined work areas.
- Ability to maintain sufficient hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to safely perform precision welding activities.
- Ability to visually inspect weld preparation, weld puddles, completed welds, materials, and work areas.
- Ability to wear required PPE, including welding hood, safety glasses, gloves, protective clothing, hearing protection, fall protection, and respiratory protection when required.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull welding equipment, tools, leads, materials, and components weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work for extended periods in physically demanding positions and environments.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental and weather conditions.

Work Environment - Work is performed primarily in refineries, petrochemical and chemical facilities, power generation facilities, fabrication shops, construction sites, and other heavy industrial environments.
- The employee may work around active process equipment, piping systems, welding and cutting operations, cranes, scaffolding, mobile equipment, elevated surfaces, and other industrial hazards. Work may involve exposure to welding fumes, sparks, heat, noise, dust, chemicals, oils, humidity, and varying weather conditions.
- Work may be performed at elevated locations and in confined or restricted spaces when properly trained and authorized. Employees must comply with all Company, customer, and site-specific safety requirements and wear required PPE.
- Work schedules may include overtime, extended shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, travel, outages, and turnarounds based on project and operational requirements.
