Job Description
Summary: Tandem Diabetes Care is a leader in the diabetes technology industry, dedicated to creating innovative solutions for people living with diabetes. The AI Solutions Intern will support the IT Platforms Enterprise Software team in exploring and developing artificial intelligence proof of concept solutions while contributing to the company's AI Center of Excellence.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design, development, and evaluation of AI‑focused proof‑of‑concept solutions
- Contribute to software components, services, or integrations supporting AI experimentation
- Assist with integrating internal systems, APIs, and data sources to enable AI‑driven workflows
- Support the evaluation and comparison of AI models and services available within Microsoft Azure, including models beyond OpenAI‑based offerings
- Contribute to internal documentation, diagrams, and technical notes capturing findings, architecture options, and lessons learned
- Participate in experimentation related to prompt design, AI behavior evaluation, and response quality analysis
- Contribute to internal documentation, diagrams, and technical notes capturing findings, architecture options, and lessons learned
- Collaborate with the Enterprise Software team using standard development workflows and tooling (e.g., GitHub, issue tracking, code reviews)
- Participate in team meetings, design discussions, and agile ceremonies as appropriate
- Ensure assigned work follows company policies, including Privacy/HIPAA, security, and regulatory requirements
- AI capabilities that support software development or IT operations
- Internal AI assistants that surface company policies, learning content, or product information
- Integration or extension of existing internal tools, such as Tandem’s EAK support bot
- Exploration of agent‑based or orchestrated AI architectures composed of specialized AI agents
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Foundational understanding of software development concepts (through coursework, projects, or prior internships)
- Familiarity with APIs and service‑based architecture, headless design, microservices, etc
- Exposure to source control and collaborative development practices (e.g., Git/GitHub)
- Strong interest in artificial intelligence, including large language models and applied AI systems
- Curiosity and willingness to experiment with different AI approaches, tools, and architectures
- Familiarity with or interest in cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly in an evolving technical environment
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and documentation skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non‑technical team members
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment with guidance and mentorship
- Academic, personal, or internship experience working on software or technical projects
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience with AI, cloud services, or automation preferred, but not required
