We are looking for an experienced Test Automation Engineer with strong expertise in Python and PyTest to validate observability, monitoring, event logging, and operator-facing workflows for the Kavach Wayside system.
The candidate will be responsible for designing and developing test automation frameworks from scratch, creating automated verification utilities, validating system alarms and health indicators, analyzing multi-source logs, and supporting regression and defect-triage activities.
The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on Linux experience and should be comfortable troubleshooting system-level issues using Linux commands, shell scripting, logs, APIs, and automation utilities.
This role requires an evidence-driven and traceability-focused testing approach, particularly suited to environments where reliability, repeatability, documentation, and audit readiness are important.
Key Responsibilities1. NMS / Observability TestingValidate NMS (Network Management System) functionality, monitoring behavior, alarms, health indicators, and system status.
Verify that alarms are correctly generated, displayed, acknowledged, updated, and cleared.
Validate system behavior during different fault, failure, recovery, and degraded-state scenarios.
Verify alarm severity, source, timestamp, status, description, and other relevant attributes.
Validate correct system behavior after fault recovery and ensure stale or incorrect alarms are not retained.
Perform integration-level validation between monitored components and the NMS.
Analyze monitoring results and identify discrepancies between expected and actual system behavior.
Validate Event Logger functionality for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and persistence.
Verify that expected system events are generated for relevant system actions, faults, recoveries, and state changes.
Validate event attributes such as:
Event ID
Event type
Timestamp
Severity
Source/component
Description
Status
Identify missing, duplicate, delayed, or incorrectly generated events.
Correlate Event Logger entries with system behavior and source logs.
Ensure event evidence can be traced back to the corresponding test case and scenario.
Validate operator-facing workflows in SM-OCIP/operator console interfaces.
Test workflows related to:
Alarm display
Alarm acknowledgement
Alarm status
Health/status indicators
Fault notifications
Recovery status
Validate UI behavior against backend/system state.
Verify that operator actions result in the expected system state changes.
Perform end-to-end validation across NMS Event Logger Operator Console.
Capture appropriate evidence such as screenshots, logs, timestamps, reports, and test execution results.
Develop robust automation using Python and PyTest.
Design and develop a test automation framework from scratch, end-to-end.
Build reusable automation components, utilities, fixtures, libraries, and test modules.
Develop Python utilities for:
Alarm validation
Event validation
Log parsing
Log correlation
System health checks
API validation
Evidence collection
Report generation
Implement reusable PyTest fixtures and configuration mechanisms.
Support parameterized, data-driven, and modular test execution.
Implement appropriate logging, exception handling, assertions, and failure diagnostics.
Design automation that can be executed repeatedly across different environments/configurations.
Perform hands-on testing and troubleshooting in Linux environments.
Execute automated and manual validation directly on Linux systems.
Use Linux commands and shell scripts for system investigation and test execution.
Analyze application, system, service, and component logs.
Investigate process, service, connectivity, resource, and configuration issues.
Develop Shell/Bash utilities where required to support test automation.
Work with Linux processes, services, files, permissions, networking, and system resources.
Troubleshoot failures by correlating application behavior with Linux/system logs.
Strong hands-on Linux experience is mandatory.
6. Log Parsing & CorrelationDevelop Python/Shell utilities to parse and analyze system and application logs.
Correlate logs from multiple components/services to identify the sequence of events leading to a failure.
Validate timestamps, event sequences, error messages, state transitions, and recovery events.
Automate identification of expected versus unexpected events.
Support root-cause analysis using logs from multiple sources.
Build reusable log-analysis utilities that can be incorporated into regression testing.
Create automated mechanisms for collecting test evidence.
Package relevant:
Test results
Logs
Screenshots
API responses
Console output
Timestamps
Environment/build information
Generate clear and repeatable automation reports.
Link test evidence to specific test cases, requirements, scenarios, and defects.
Maintain complete traceability between requirements, test cases, automation scripts, execution results, and defects.
Ensure test results are clear enough for independent review and audit purposes.
Develop and maintain automated regression test suites.
Identify suitable test cases for automation and regression coverage.
Integrate PyTest automation into CI/CD pipelines.
Support scheduled and on-demand regression execution.
Analyze regression failures and distinguish between:
Product defects
Automation failures
Environment issues
Configuration issues
Infrastructure failures
Continuously improve automation coverage, execution time, stability, and reliability.
Identify, reproduce, analyze, and document defects.
Perform structured troubleshooting using:
Test results
Application logs
System logs
Event logs
