Process Engineer Internship at Sumitomo Electric in Turners Falls, MA

Summary: Sumitomo Electric's Judd Wire Inc. is seeking a Process Engineering Summer Intern for their Turners Falls, MA facility. The intern will support Process Engineering activities, manage a core project, and assist with various department duties including product sample testing and data analysis. Responsibilities: - Managing one core project - Fulfilling general department duties - Product sample testing using an Instron test machine - Physical sample/data collection in a factory environment - Analysis of said samples - Writing technical reports with results and recommendations for improvement - Supporting the IQ/OQ/PQ of an upgraded Aerospace vertical marking line - Testing and evaluation of key design characteristic changes to inkpots, wire pass line and fixture design - Classification of airframe wire and cable extrusion defects - Generation and updates to various CAD drawings - Assisting in continual improvement projects as assigned by the supervisor Required Qualifications: - Student currently enrolled in an accredited engineering College or University - Pursuing a bachelors degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Chemical or other similar engineering discipline - Possess effective verbal and written communication skills - Must have sound time management, organization & presentation skills - Must have comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) - Ability to work and collaborate effectively with cross functional departments including operations, quality, and production control personnel - Comfortable and willing to work in a 'hands-on' manufacturing environment Preferred Qualifications: - Junior or Senior year preferred - Experience with software tools such as Minitab and Solidworks a plus Required Skills: Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering Important Skills: Microsoft Office Suite Nice-to-Have Skills: Minitab, Solidworks, Hands-on Manufacturing, Verbal Communication, Written Communication, Time Management, Organization Skills, Presentation Skills, Collaboration
