Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Cash Applications Quality Auditor is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of payment
posting processes within the revenue cycle.
This role conducts audits of payment transactions, identifies trends and discrepancies, and provides coaching and training to team members.
The Auditor collaborates with internal departments
to resolve complex payment issues, supports process improvements, and ensures adherence to payer and regulatory
guidelines.
This position plays a key role in maintaining data integrity across multiple practice management systems and
contributes to the overall financial health of the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Conduct regular audits of payment postings, adjustments, and denials to ensure accuracy and compliance with payer and internal policies.
- Monitor payment posting quality metrics and identify recurring issues or trends.
- Provide feedback, coaching, and training to payment posting staff to improve accuracy and performance.
- Collaborate with AR, billing, and management teams to resolve discrepancies and misapplied payments.
- Support onboarding and ongoing training for new and existing team members.
- Develop and maintain audit tools, QA documentation, and training materials.
- Participate in compliance reviews and ensure audit readiness.
- Analyze root causes of posting errors and recommend process improvements.
- Reconcile daily cash application transactions and ensure alignment with the general ledger.
- Investigate and resolve complex or misdirected payment issues, including unapplied/unidentified cash.
- Inappropriate adjustments or discounts should be escalated to the appropriate teams.
- Generate and analyze quality assurance reports to support operational decisions.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for payment posting best practices.
- Assist with special projects, system upgrades, and cross-functional initiatives.
- Attend meetings, trainings, and webinars to stay current on industry standards and payer requirements.
- Respond promptly to internal and client inquiries and escalate issues as needed.
- Perform other duties as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- A bachelors degree in healthcare related or financial related education programs.
- A minimum of 3 years experience in payment posting within a medical billing or accounts receivable environment.
- At least one year of experience as a quality Auditor, including training or mentoring experience required.
- Strong knowledge of payment posting workflows, denial codes and adjustment types.
- Passionate about helping others and can communicate in a direct yet empathetic manner.
- Ability to influence & motivate others to take positive steps to change direction to achieve desired outcomes.
- Previous experience with medical billing systems required.
- Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9/10 and HCPCS codes
- Sharp intelligence of government payers and other commercial/managed care carrier rules and processes in a professional billing environment
- Attention to detail with the ability to identify/resolve problems and document the outcome.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Experience pulling reports out of systems and analyzing trends.
- Ability to multi-task and recognize trends to effectively work cash applications and payment reconcilliations
- Solid skill with Microsoft Office applications: Word, Excel
- Initiative to learn new tasks and the ability to apply acquired knowledge to future duties.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and accountability are necessary for optimum client results.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.
- Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients and clients in person and over the telephone.
- Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.
- May include prolong periods of sitting, typing, viewing computer/laptop screens, along with occasional bending, reaching, lifting, climbing, twisting, stooping, and standing.
