The Role
The Hybrid Survey Technician / Field Surveyor supports land surveying projects through a combination of field data collection and office-based survey processing. This position is ideal for an individual who enjoys working both outdoors and in a technical office environment. Responsibilities include operating survey equipment in the field, gathering accurate spatial data, processing survey information, preparing CAD deliverables, and supporting project teams in the production of high-quality survey documents.
The successful candidate will work on a variety of projects including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, easement exhibits, utility surveys, construction staking, and land development projects throughout the Metro Atlanta region and surrounding Southeast markets.
Responsibilities
Field Survey Operations
- Perform field data collection using GNSS/GPS equipment, robotic total stations, digital levels, and data collectors
- Assist with boundary, topographic, route, utility, ALTA/NSPS, and construction surveys
- Perform construction staking and as-built surveys
- Establish and verify survey control points and benchmarks
- Maintain accurate field notes and electronic data records
- Ensure work is performed safely and in accordance with company standards and industry best practices
- Maintain and care for survey vehicles, equipment, and field supplies
Office Survey Operations
- Download, organize, and process field survey data
- Prepare and edit survey drawings using AutoCAD Civil 3D and related software
- Create topographic maps, boundary exhibits, easement plats, staking calculations, and survey deliverables
- Assist with record research, deed research, plats, and public records investigations
- Perform quality control reviews of survey data and drawings
- Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and survey crews to ensure project accuracy and schedule compliance
- Support development of survey reports and project documentation
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of land surveying experience, either field, office, or a combination of both
- Experience operating survey equipment including GPS/GNSS and total stations
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar CAD software
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to travel throughout the Atlanta region and occasionally to project sites across Georgia and neighboring states
Preferred
- Associate degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field
- CST (Certified Survey Technician) certification or ability to obtain certification
- Experience with Trimble, Leica, Carlson, or Topcon equipment and software
- Knowledge of Georgia land surveying standards and procedures
- Experience with UAV/drone surveys, LiDAR, GIS, or reality capture technologies
