Avionics Operations Engineer at Stratolaunch in Mojave, CA

Summary: Stratolaunch is a technology accelerator that engineers operationally realistic testing at Mach 5+. They are seeking a level I or II Avionics Engineer to support integration, testing, and operations of hypersonic aircraft electrical and avionics systems, collaborating with other system owners to ensure mission success. Responsibilities: - Support integration, test, and operations of hypersonic vehicle launch system avionics and electrical systems - Write and perform procedures - Address vehicle discrepancies - Support vehicle system trouble shooting - Maintain configuration control over major avionics system elements including wiring diagrams, 3D CAD, work orders, etc - Coordinate with other subsystem leads to develop requirements, test plans, and procedures - Coordinate with engineers across a broad spectrum of disciplines to understand requirements and engineer technical solutions - Perform analysis to gauge system design adequacy and performance to meet program requirements - Coordinate with suppliers and sub-contractors to ensure technical and programmatic requirements are met - Coordinate with external customers to support range integration, launch license applications, safety documentation and analyses, and payload integration - Create presentations and support design reviews throughout vehicle development - Support ground and/or flight test, as required - Regular and comprehensive communication to the Avionics Lead on a weekly and monthly basis - Demonstrate honesty, responsibility, integrity, and fulfillment of commitments Required Qualifications: - Knowledge of, and experience with, one or more of these disciplines: electrical engineering, avionics, electronics, software development, circuit design experience, experimental aircraft and/or launch vehicle integration - Experience with troubleshooting Ethernet networks - Experience creating wiring diagrams and/or circuit schematics - Experience with flight vehicle troubleshooting and modifications - Experience with electrical design analysis such as power budgets, thermal analysis, or RF budgets - Experience with system analysis, such as telemetry bandwidth and/or telemetry link margin - Excellent written communication and documentation skills - Ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities - Ability to work on their own initiative and prioritize tasking to fit within the business goals - Complex aerospace system development - Experience in C/C++, Python, XML - MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) - Level I ($83,000-$120,500): Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 0-2 years of engineering experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience - Level II ($101,000-$146,500): Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from accredited institution and 2-5 years of relevant experience, OR equivalent combination of education and experience Preferred Qualifications: - Experience integrating launch vehicle or aircraft electrical power systems - Experience with data acquisition and instrumentation (thermocouples, accelerometers, strain) - Knowledge of environmental testing (vibration, thermal, shock) - Experience with architecting Avionics and Data Acquisition systems for experimental vehicles - Experience with IEEE 802.3 networking standards and IRIG-106 telemetry standards - Experience with being on a Mission Control Center console during flight operations - Security clearance - Siemens Capital/Mentor Graphics - Matlab - Labview - Familiarity with configuration management systems – Jira (preferred) Required Skills: Electrical Engineering, Avionics, Electronics, Software Development, Circuit Design, Experimental Aircraft Integration, Launch Vehicle Integration, Ethernet Network Troubleshooting, Wiring Diagram Creation, Circuit Schematic Creation, Flight Vehicle Troubleshooting, Electrical Design Analysis, Power Budgeting, Thermal Analysis, RF Budgeting, System Analysis, Telemetry Bandwidth Analysis, Telemetry Link Margin Analysis, Complex Aerospace System Development, C Programming, C++ Programming, Python Programming, XML, MS Office, Data Acquisition, Instrumentation, Environmental Testing, Avionics System Architecture, IEEE 802.3 Networking Standards, IRIG-106 Telemetry Standards, Mission Control Operations, Security Clearance, Prioritization Benefits: 9/80 schedule, Healthcare (medical, dental, vision, prescription drugs), Paid Maternity and Parental Leave, 50% company match per contributed dollar into 401(k) savings plan, up to $11,500, Tuition reimbursement
