Job Description
Summary: The State of Oklahoma is seeking an Engineer for the Water Quality Division - Municipal Wastewater Enforcement Section. The role involves investigating and resolving complaints related to municipal wastewater treatment systems and ensuring compliance with OPDES Programs through inspections and technical assistance.
Responsibilities:
- Investigate and close/resolve complaints involving municipal wastewater systems, MS4, and construction stormwater sites in assigned district according to DEQ procedures
- Prepare formal and/or informal enforcement actions resulting from significant violations at municipal wastewater systems in assigned district. Track the progress of formal enforcement actions or take additional enforcement actions, as necessary, to ensure compliance
- Perform Compliance Evaluation Inspections and Pretreatment Compliance Inspections on major municipal wastewater systems as assigned and finalize inspection reports
- Perform technical analyses/engineering reviews
- Review sludge and residuals management plans, disposal plans and general permit applications. Prepare approval/comment letters and general permit authorizations
- Participate in management-approved training as a recipient and/or presenter, as necessary
- Provide technical assistance to municipal wastewater systems in assigned district by making on-site visits and documenting those visits with Technical Assistance Reports or Inspection Reports
Required Qualifications:
- All applicants must be able to pass a background check and must be able to legally work within the United States
- DEQ does not allow sponsorship for those on a H1B visa
- This position requires in-office work Monday - Friday
- All applicants must upload a resume, transcript(s) and references to be considered for the position
- Level III - bachelor's degree in engineering from a college or university recognized by the Oklahoma State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, in accordance with the standards of the Accreditation Board of Engineering Technology
- Level IV - registration as an Engineer Intern
- Level V - those identified in level IV plus one year experience in the practice of engineering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting the completion of a master's degree in engineering for the required one year of experience in the practice of engineering
- Level VI - those identified in level IV plus two years of experience in the practice of engineering; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting a master's degree in engineering for one year of experience in the practice of engineering
- To be considered for this position applicants must be within 60 days of obtaining their degree
- Persons with out of state registration as an Engineer Intern must transfer their registration with the State of Oklahoma through the Oklahoma State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors no later than six months from the date of appointment
- Persons will not be granted permanent status without a valid Oklahoma registration as an Engineer Intern
- Engineer Interns must be able to operate a personal computer for long periods of time
- Engineer Interns must be able to walk long distances or spend long hours on their feet
- Engineer Interns must be able to walk over a variety of terrain such as loose gravel, slopes, excavated areas and construction sites
- Engineer Interns must be able to climb ladders or stairs
- Engineer Interns must be able to carry equipment or supplies up to 50 pounds
- Engineer Interns must be able to handle extremes of heat or cold and inclement weather
- Engineer Interns may occasionally be exposed to strong odors and possibly short-term exposure to various pollutants
