Job Description
Summary: Sparksoft Corporation is a catalyst for change in the tech industry, dedicated to revolutionizing IT solutions for government clients. They are seeking a Cyber Security Intern to assist with security monitoring, threat detection, incident response, and various cybersecurity initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with security monitoring, threat detection, and incident response activities
- Support vulnerability assessments, security audits, and compliance reviews
- Help maintain and update security documentation, policies, and procedures
- Participate in security tool configuration and maintenance (e.g., SIEM, firewalls, endpoint protection)
- Conduct research on emerging cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and best practices
- Assist with security awareness initiatives and training materials
- Support identity and access management (IAM) processes and user access reviews
- Collaborate with IT and development teams to promote secure coding and system hardening practices
Required Qualifications:
- Foundational knowledge of cybersecurity principles, practices, and technologies
- Awareness of current and emerging cybersecurity threats, trends, and defense strategies
- Basic understanding of networks, operating systems, and information security concepts
- Ability to troubleshoot technical security issues and think critically about risk
- Strong learning agility and eagerness to develop cybersecurity expertise
- Self-motivated problem solver with attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Good judgment and ability to work effectively within a high-performing security team
- Currently enrolled college student or recent college graduate
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with security frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, CIS Controls)
- Experience with security tools or platforms (e.g., SIEM, vulnerability scanners, antivirus/EDR)
- Knowledge of scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, Bash)
- Exposure to cloud security concepts (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Understanding of compliance requirements (e.g., FISMA, FedRAMP, HIPAA)
- Cybersecurity-related certifications (e.g., Security+, CEH, CySA+) are a plus but not required
