Job Description
Summary: SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. In this role, you will be responsible for the manufacturing and quality systems surrounding tight tolerance machined hardware for the satellite RF systems, developing innovative manufacturing solutions to drive quality and yield improvements.
Responsibilities:
- Own product success for precision machined parts with single-digit micron tolerances
- Interface with design engineers and machinists to implement DFM feedback on new and current hardware iterations
- Aggressively implement process improvements to production processes to improve quality and throughput
- Create capital and facility justifications for large projects and process improvements. Own these projects through implementation and activation
- Own and develop quality plans for hardware covering dimensional inspection and functional testing
- Design and fabricate tooling for machining, assembly, and inspection stations
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering, physics or other engineering discipline
- 1+ years of engineering design experience (internships, student projects, extracurricular project experience, and professional experience qualify)
- Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed
- Some travel required (up to 10%)
- Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Siemens NX and Teamcenter CAD/PDM systems
- Hands on experience milling, turning, and/or CMM inspection
- Practical and programming experience with high precision metrology including CMM, Profilometer, interferometer, etc
- Strong demonstrable experience using GD&T
- Basic understanding of industrial electrical, control, and instrumentation systems
- Experience working effectively across multi-disciplinary teams
- Desire to work in a fast-paced environment
- Basic proficiency with Python or other programming language
- Experience with full part life cycle from design through verification and production
- Demonstrated experience working in a high-rate production environment
