GNC Software Engineer (Falcon) at SpaceX in Hawthorne, CA

The GNC Software Engineer will support the Falcon GNC team by developing software tools for trajectory design and vehicle simulation, enhancing the efficiency of launch operations and mission design. Responsibilities: - Create analysis tools, applications, and execution pipelines that allow vehicles to be flown quickly, reliably, and robustly for the GNC team - Design and lead the development of new software projects - Review existing tools and processes and drive more efficient or more reliable approaches - Participate in all phases of a mission, from feasibility analysis and research to concrete mission design and launch operations - Perform trajectory design, optimization, and dispersion analysis for Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy launch vehicle missions for all phases of flight, including ascent, entry, landing, and fairing recovery Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, math, or scientific discipline - 1+ years of experience with Python and Python based development frameworks - 1+ years of experience in any of the following: orbital mechanics, flight dynamics, classical dynamics, modeling, robotics, or simulation - Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed - To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State Preferred Qualifications: - Professional or academic experience with physics and/or experience with software as it relates to the physical world - Strong competency in software development practices including testing and continuous integration - Professional experience in web applications development - Experience working directly on engineering or scientific computing problems - Educational or professional background in Guidance, Navigation, and Control - Demonstrated project or professional experience in launch vehicle and/or spacecraft systems - Professional experience with other programming languages such as C/C++ or JavaScript - Experience with high performance computing systems or large scale data analysis systems - Deep understanding of one or more modern persistency systems - Focus on performance bottlenecks and performance improvement techniques Required Skills: Python, orbital mechanics, Guidance, Navigation, Control Important Skills: C/C++, web applications development, high performance computing Nice-to-Have Skills: software development practices, testing, continuous integration, performance improvement techniques, project management Benefits: Long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, Potential discretionary bonuses, Ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, Access to a 401(k) retirement plan, Short and long-term disability insurance, Life insurance, Paid parental leave, Various other discounts and perks, 3 weeks of paid vacation, 10 or more paid holidays per year, Paid sick leave pursuant to Company policy which satisfies or exceeds the accrual, carryover, and use requirements of the law
