Data Engineer (Direct To Cell) at SpaceX in Redmond, WA

Summary: SpaceX is a leader in rocket and satellite launch and manufacturing, developing technologies to enable human life on Mars. As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for developing strategies and tools to assess the effectiveness of the Direct to Cell network, working collaboratively with various engineering teams and external partners. Responsibilities: - Build and maintain mission-critical infrastructure, tools, processes, and custom software to objectively assess growth areas for the Direct to Cell program - Automate the aggregation of metrics and detection of widespread application issues across Direct to Cell - Establish and maintain relationships with key third-party application/content owners - Lead technical investigations about chronic application-level issues - Build ground-based software systems that ingest, transform, and store data - Apply data analytics, models, and techniques to data products created by space vehicles - Create catalogs of data and tools that can be used by you and other teams to perform analytics - Fuse data from multiple sources to create usable information Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, physics, mathematics, or a STEM discipline - 1+ years of data/software engineering experience (internship experience is applicable) - Experience in analytics, data science, or machine learning - Must be willing to work extended hours and weekends as needed Preferred Qualifications: - Experience handling large (TB+) datasets - Experience using SQL - Development experience in an object-oriented programming language (i.e. C, C++, Python) - Experience building solutions with Parquet, or similar storage formats - Knowledge of Kubernetes - Experience building solutions with in-stream data processing of structured and semi-structured data - Experience building predictive models and machine learning pipelines (clustering analysis, prediction, anomaly detection) - Experience in custom ETL design, implementation, and maintenance - Experience with developing and deploying tools used for data analysis - Experience using Spark, Presto, Flink, or Snowflake - Ability to work effectively in a dynamic environment that includes working with changing needs and requirements - Ability to take on projects that require taking initiative and developing new expertise Required Skills: Data engineering, SQL, Machine learning Important Skills: Python, Kubernetes, ETL design, Spark Nice-to-Have Skills: C++, Data analysis tools, Dynamic environment adaptability Benefits: Long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, Potential discretionary bonuses, Ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Access to comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, Access to a 401(k)- retirement plan, Short & long-term disability insurance, Life insurance, Paid parental leave, Various other discounts and perks, 3 weeks of paid vacation, 10 or more paid holidays per year, 5 days of sick leave per year, Company shuttles are offered to employees for round trip travel from select Seattle locations to the SpaceX Redmond office Monday to Friday
