Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and analytical Risk Management Lead to establish, drive, and govern project risk management frameworks across large-scale infrastructure, utilities, and capital projects. In this role, you will lead qualitative and quantitative risk assessments, facilitate structured risk workshops, and provide executive decision support to safeguard project objectives across budget, timeline, quality, and safety.
The ideal candidate brings strong background in engineering or management, master-level familiarity with quantitative risk analysis (QRA), and a proven track record of developing robust risk registers for complex capital developments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Risk Framework, Governance & Facilitation
- Establish, implement, and maintain comprehensive Project Risk Management Plans tailored to project phases and contract structures.
- Lead and facilitate multidisciplinary risk identification and assessment workshops with client teams, consultants, contractors, and key project stakeholders.
- Develop, update, and maintain comprehensive Risk Registers, ensuring actionable mitigation plans, assigned risk owners, and clear close-out protocols.
- Drive risk-based decision-making frameworks and report regularly to senior leadership on key project exposure, threat updates, and strategic opportunities.
2. Quantitative & Qualitative Risk Analysis (QRA)
- Perform qualitative risk scoring (likelihood vs. impact) and prioritize project risks across technical, commercial, environmental, and contractual domains.
- Conduct advanced Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) using Monte Carlo simulations to estimate schedule drag and cost contingency reserves (Cost & Schedule Risk Analysis - SRA/CRA).
- Evaluate risk-adjusted project baselines and recommend contingency drawdowns or adjustments based on risk modeling output.
3. Monitoring, Reporting & Mitigation Oversight
- Monitor risk mitigation strategy progress, verifying that risk response plans are executed effectively by responsible teams.
- Interface with project control, scheduling, and commercial teams to integrate risk analysis into delay claim management, change orders, and forecasting.
- Generate executive-level risk dashboard reports, risk heat maps, and trend analyses for client updates and governance boards.
Requirements
Qualifications & Education
Education
Mandatory: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Management from an accredited institution.
Preferred: Master’s degree in Project Management, Risk Management, or Engineering Management.
(Note: Extensive, proven experience in project risk management on large capital/infrastructure projects may substitute for postgraduate studies).
Required Certifications & Technical Proficiency
- Mandatory / Strongly Preferred: PMI-RMP (Risk Management Professional) or equivalent credential.
- Advantage: Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Advantage: Hands-on proficiency in Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA) & Monte Carlo simulation tools (e.g., Primavera Risk Analysis, @RISK, Safran).
- Preferred: Completion of formal training/workshops in risk-based decision-making and project governance.
Experience & Background Requirements
Overall Experience: Minimum 10+ years of professional experience in project delivery.
Dedicated Risk Experience: Minimum 3+ years dedicated exclusively to project risk management, risk assessments, and quantitative modeling.
Industry Experience (Mandatory): Proven track record working on infrastructure, utilities, or mega capital projects.
Career Path Alignment:
- 0–3 Years: Site Engineer
- 3–7 Years: Risk / Project Controls Engineer
- 7–10 Years: Senior Risk Engineer / Risk Analyst
- 10+ Years: Risk Management Lead
Technical & Professional Competencies
- Expertise in risk register formulation, risk modeling methodology, and workshop facilitation.
- Ability to translate complex quantitative risk data into actionable executive insights.
- Deep understanding of risk interfaces between design, procurement, site construction, and commissioning.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder facilitation skills across cross-functional teams.
