Job Description
Summary: Souder, Miller & Associates is an employee-owned engineering firm providing infrastructure, water safety, and environmental solutions. The Staff Engineer I-III supports planning, design, construction administration, and observation for water and wastewater projects, performing field and office work both independently and on teams.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and apply foundational engineering skills using established procedures, criteria, and technical standards
- Collect data, perform standard computations and analysis, and prepare drawings, visual aids, and technical documentation
- Support preparation and modification of reports, specifications, plans, permits, scopes of work, schedules, and cost estimates
- Assist with client communication, project coordination, meetings, and field investigations, including occasional overnight travel
- Provide construction observation and onsite project representation for assigned water/wastewater projects
- Coordinate fieldwork with staff and subcontractors and provide directions to technicians or project support personnel as needed
- Complete assigned quality system tasks, follow document review requirements, and help manage technical risk and potential liabilities
- Demonstrate increasing independence, critical thinking, sound professional judgment, ethical responsibility, and the ability to seek guidance when needed
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in an appropriate engineering or science
- In-training certificate or similar, as appropriate
- Should actively pursue professional registration and/or certification
- Must have a valid driver's license and be able to pass drug tests
- Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship
- The position is located in our Las Cruces, NM office
- TRAVEL: up to 25%
- The employee must be able and willing to frequently lift and/or move 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
Preferred Qualifications:
- Minimum 1-6 years of experience post-graduation preferred
