Job Description
Summary: Sony Corporation of America is the U.S. headquarters of Sony Group Corporation, based in Tokyo, Japan. They are seeking a Ventures Research Intern to support market research, technology and business analysis, and Due Diligence within the Sony Ventures team.
Responsibilities:
- Create landscape maps related to specific innovations & key players around specific subsectors within Climate and/or Enterprise/AI
- Continuously review news/media and harness AI tools for monitoring new developments – both in terms of emerging companies and established players. Summarize those in a timely and actionable manner to both the SIF and broader Sony teams
- Contribute to technology evaluation of the startups that Sony Ventures is considering, notably in terms of identifying potential uniqueness (or lack of it) and related players, as a contributor to some of the Due Diligence steps
- Attend calls/meetings with startups and support the planning of investment activities with them – such as memos, presentation preparation, next steps planning etc
- Participate in broader Sony Ventures activities around portfolio management, portfolio value-up… as needed
Required Qualifications:
- Engineering degree (Bachelor's at least) from a top-tier university. Ideally in a technology field (e.g. physics, electrical engineering, computer science, materials science, bioengineering, environmental systems…)
- Ability to synthesize large volumes of information to extract key insights and communicate those in a relevant manner
- Passion for new technology
- Able to multitask and handle multiple projects with short deadlines
- Thriving in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree preferred from a top-tier university
- Ideally some basic finance/business acumen (around business models, innovation economics…)
