Job Description
Summary: Solar Turbines is part of Caterpillar Inc., a global team focused on innovation and building sustainable communities. The role is designed for Entry Level engineers to engage in a rotational program that provides diverse engineering experiences and prepares them for a rewarding career in Gas Turbine Product Engineering.
Responsibilities:
- Gain access to challenging assignments intended to generate critical business value and enable the engineer to acquire gas turbine product knowledge
- Participate in multiple rotations of up to six months each in departments such as Mechanical Design, Combustion, Additive Manufacturing, Heat Transfer and Secondary Flow, Compressor Aerodynamics, Turbine Aerodynamics, Performance, Experimental Product Development and Test, Condition Based Engineering, Materials and Process Engineering, Aftermarket Engineering, Customer Services, and Product Application Engineering
- At the conclusion of the rotation program, join one of the Gas Turbine Product Engineering departments for a long-term assignment
Required Qualifications:
- Must have obtained or will obtain a minimum of a bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Science, or other related engineering discipline
- Overall cumulative GPA of 2.8 on a 4.0 scale or higher
- Technical knowledge of engineering fundamentals
- Must be able and eager to relocate to San Diego, CA
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated leadership and teamwork capabilities
- Effective problem-solving skills and technical judgment
- Ability to effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions
- Exhibit exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- Previous related internship or co-op experience
- Ability to handle multiple priorities for a variety of tasks
- Ideal for those building foundational skills in this field, generally within the first 0–2 years of their career
