Summary: SMX is thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for a 2026 Summer Internship within our Space and Intel business unit in Broomfield, CO. The internship provides a chance to apply software development skills while working on mission critical projects for the United States Department of Defense/Intelligence Community, along with hands-on learning experiences and mentorship. Responsibilities: - Participate in an approximately 10 week session to learn from tenured professionals - Engage in meetings, calls, and gatherings with your designated team - Benefit from an assigned SMX mentor who will provide guidance, clarification and feedback - Work on a meaningful target Capstone project throughout the internship, culminating in a final project presentation to leadership - Attend department 'Lunch and Learn' meetings with SMX leaders - Have assigned learning modules relevant to your area of focus - Attend internship social, internal networking, and community volunteer events Required Qualifications: - Must be enrolled full-time and pursuing an associate, undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university (junior or senior level preferred) in computer engineering, computer science, applied mathematics, physics, aerospace engineering, or other related STEM field - Must be proficient in frontend languages such as React / JS as well as backend languages such as Java, Python, or C++ - Must be a US Citizen - We look forward to welcoming interns who are available in the local Broomfield, CO area, as onsite presence will be required - A curious mind, a willingness to collaborate in a team environment, and openness to learning and trying new concepts - Strong critical thinking skills and a proactive approach to seeking knowledge and asking questions - Ability to contribute to research, analysis, and problem-solving using various tools and techniques - Capability to produce high-quality work that meets professional standards - Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate ideas clearly and concisely - Willingness to embrace diverse perspectives and welcome opposing and conflicting ideas Required Skills: React, Java, Python, C++ Important Skills: Critical thinking, Communication skills Nice-to-Have Skills: Openness to learning, Team collaboration, Problem-solving Benefits: Health insurance, Paid leave, Retirement
