Job Description
Summary: Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) is a collective committed to shaping a better future for clients, communities, and the planet. They are seeking a Model Shop Intern to assist with model building and shop maintenance under the guidance of the senior model shop manager and project teams.
Responsibilities:
- Ability to work under the guidance of the senior model shop manager as well as various project teams throughout the office to execute high-quality architectural models
- Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively
- Shop Maintenance: General cleaning + systematic organization, sorting supplies, managing inventory, and removing outdated materials, assisting with maneuvering and fabrication of oversized and heavy items
- Model Building Assistance with technical tasks, including sanding, assembly and file work
- Furniture Construction: Fulfilling pending furniture requests from the office
- This positions requires a minimum of 15 hours per week on-site in our office
Required Qualifications:
- Current student in an accredited bachelor's program or master's degree program in architecture, engineering, or a related discipline
- Some experience and proficiency in model shop fabrication techniques and tools, including table saw, laser cutter, bandsaw, and 3d printing
- Ability to work under the guidance of the senior model shop manager as well as various project teams throughout the office to execute high-quality architectural models
- Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively
- Shop Maintenance: General cleaning + systematic organization, sorting supplies, managing inventory, and removing outdated materials, assisting with maneuvering and fabrication of oversized and heavy items

Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficiency is preferred in 3d modeling software such as Rhino, AutoCAD, Revit
