- Monitor welding processes (SMAW, GMAW/FCAW, GTAW, SAW) and enforce compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and PQR.
- Validate welder qualifications and maintain updated Welder Performance Qualification (WPQ) records.
- Enforce specialized handling, cutting, and welding procedures for high-strength, armored, or shielding metal plates to protect structural integrity and ballistics/shielding performance.
- Perform precision dimensional inspection of CNC machined parts (in-house and supplier-provided) against engineering drawings using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, and CMM reports.
- Verify geometric tolerances (GD&T) including concentricity, runout, perpendicularity, flatness, and surface finish roughness (Ra values).
- Inspect incoming raw materials, fastners, and outsourced components; cross-check physical shipments against Material Test Reports (MTRs), mill certificates, and purchase orders.
- Issue Supplier Discrepancy Reports (SDR) and Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) for defective incoming lots or out-of-spec machined parts.
- Inspect surface preparation (grit/shot blasting) to ensure required blast profile/roughness and cleanliness levels per ISO 8501-1 (e.g., Sa 2.5).
- Monitor environmental conditions prior to paint application (ambient temperature, steel surface temperature, relative humidity, and dew point).
- Measure Wet Film Thickness (WFT) during application and Dry Film Thickness (DFT) after curing using calibrated magnetic/electromagnetic gauges.
- Perform coating integrity testing, including adhesion testing (cross-hatch/pull-off per ISO 4624 / ASTM D4541) and holiday/pinhole testing where applicable.
- Perform and coordinate NDT methods (VT, PT, MT, and UT/RT review) to verify weld and material soundess.
- Ensure all shop operations comply with ISO standards (ISO 9001, ISO 3834) and relevant API specifications(e.g., API 650, API 1104, API Spec Q1/Q2).
- Prepare complete Quality Control Documentation packages, including Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs), final Manufacturing Data Reports (MDRs), release notes, and coating reports.
