BESS Software Developer at Second… · Prague
Job Description
We are a technology company and trading house using data, software, and quantitative models to support market-beating trading strategies and help balance the power grid.
Our engineering teams build and operate modern platforms for data-intensive, low-latency environments. As a Database Platform Engineer, you will help us operate, improve, and automate database and data storage technologies used by developers, data engineers, analysts, and traders.
As our activities around battery energy storage systems (BESS) grow, we're looking for a BESS Software Developer to help us build the software that connects, controls and monitors battery storage systems. You'll work at the intersection of software, energy and physical infrastructure - alongside our engineers, energy specialists and external technology partners.
This is a software engineering role, but you don't need to be a programming wizard - we're looking for someone who enjoys making software work with real-world technology.
What would you work on:
- Develop and maintain software for the control, monitoring and integration of BESS, including batteries, BMS, inverters, meters and other third-party equipment.
- Implement device communication using industrial protocols and vendor APIs, translating technical specs and documentation into working software.
- Process telemetry, alarms and device states, and test components against simulated and real equipment.
- Investigate communication issues and system faults, and support commissioning and troubleshooting of BESS installations.
- Improve reliability and observability of our BESS software, and maintain technical documentation.
- Collaborate with equipment manufacturers, technology partners, and colleagues across trading, optimization and infrastructure.
What makes you a great candidate:
- Practical experience in at least one general-purpose programming language and solid software engineering fundamentals.
- Experience with APIs, network communication or integrating external systems, and comfort turning technical documentation into working code.
- A systematic approach to debugging, and ability to work independently while communicating well with the team.
- Technical curiosity - you want to understand what a device is actually doing and why, not just what the API returns.
- Professional-level English both written and spoken, for technical documentation and working with international partners.
- A background in software, electrical, or power engineering, automation, or embedded systems (or similar) is relevant.
- A plus: experience with BESS, inverters/PCS, industrial control systems, protocols like Modbus/MQTT/IEC 60870-5-104/IEC 61850, Linux/Docker, or time-series/telemetry data.
What do we offer?
- Brand new office in the city center – Masarycka.
- Competitive salary package with the possibility of a yearly bonus.
- 25 days of paid holiday.
- Flexible working hours and home-office options.
- High-end workstation.
- Sponsored lunch in the office. Every workday.
- Free snacks at the office.
- Multisport Card – fully paid by the company.
- Colleagues who are absolute experts in what they do.
