Summary: Scripps College invites applications for a Research Technician position in the Solomon-Lane Laboratory within the Department of Natural Sciences. The role involves conducting research on social behavior development using a fish model, including tasks such as experiment design, data management, and communication of findings. Responsibilities: - Designs methodologically sound scientific research experiments aligned with the research objectives of a federally funded research project - Leads the execution of research experiments, including direct supervision of undergraduate researchers, anticipating potential challenges, navigating challenges that arise, and managing resources effectively - Leads researching and implementing new laboratory methods and technologies to advance this research project - Manages data collected as part of this research project to ensure compliance with federal data management and reporting guidelines - Successfully manages multiple, concurrent experiments and other research tasks, and appropriately prioritizes them according to project timelines and due dates of deliverables - Strict compliance with lab protocols, including relevant safety regulations and guidelines, ethical guidelines, and quality control measures. Ensures strict compliance by undergraduate researchers contributing to the project - Manages the fish facility, including maintaining compliance for internal and external regulatory agencies (IACUC) and managing all other personnel who carry out research with the fish and/or contribute to animal care - Effectively communicate with project PI and other team members using excellent and clear written and verbal communication - Represent the college and department by presenting research at scientific meetings - Serves in a leadership role to train, oversee, and coordinate work of undergraduate researchers, together with the project PI - Research scientific literature - Write scientific manuscripts - Active support for the College’s Principles of Community and Institutional Values in the performance of job duties Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, or a related field, or any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the job - At least one year of relevant research experience is required - Excellent organizational skills - Strong communication and writing skills - Experience working with Microsoft Office or Google Suite - Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and perform work with minimal errors - Ability to work independently and in teams Preferred Qualifications: - Prior experience with one or more relevant scientific techniques (e.g., behavior testing, RNAscope or other histological technique, microscopy, ELISA or LCMS, transcriptomics) Required Skills: Scientific Research Design, Behavior Testing, Histological Techniques, Microscopy, ELISA, LCMS, Transcriptomics, Data Management, Microsoft Office, Google Suite
