Job Description
Summary: Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is a company focused on engineering solutions, and they are seeking an Associate Mechanical Engineer. The role involves performing mechanical engineering functions, including mechanism design, thermal analysis, and prototyping under the guidance of experienced engineers.
Responsibilities:
- Perform the following Mechanical Engineering functions under the direction of Mechanical Engineers:
- Mechanism design
- Thermal analysis and design
- Mechanical shock and vibration testing and analysis
- Prototyping and first article inspections of new products
- Assembly design
- Design for manufacturability/assembly
- Plastic, metal, and composite part design
- Component selection and specification
- Improvement of existing products
- Tolerance studies
- Qualify and monitor component and custom part vendors
- Generate and maintain accurate bills of materials. Provide accurate labor and material estimates under supervision
- Review and support documentation, mechanical designs, and manufacturing process design
- Write test plans, conduct design tests, and review results
- Maintain current and accurate project notebooks
- Communicate and collaborate with customers using verbal discussion, written correspondence, teleconferences, technical reports, papers, presentations, and product documentation
Required Qualifications:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering
- Education/experience in the following areas: Heat transfer
- Education/experience in the following areas: Computer-aided design
- Education/experience in the following areas: Materials and mechanics
- Education/experience in the following areas: Part and assembly design
- Problem solving skills
- Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
- Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
- Background check results satisfactory to SEL
- Negative drug test result(s)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Education/experience in the following areas: Electromechanical packaging design
- Education/experience in the following areas: Industrial manufacturing processes (welding, machining, injection molding, etc.)
- Education/experience in the following areas: SolidWorks modelling and simulation
- Education/experience in the following areas: FEA/CFD simulation using ANSYS (or other finite element analysis software)
- Education/experience in the following areas: Writing procedures and system-level test plans
- Education/experience in the following areas: Design of experiments and results data analysis/statistics
