About us
School Space exists to create thriving schools at the centre of thriving communities. We do this by partnering with schools to rent out their facilities to the community in the evenings and weekends. Our spaces are hired by wonderful community groups, and the income generated is used by the schools to improve the educational experience and facilities for their students, in addition to building stronger connections with the surrounding community. Our core values are Transparency, Positivity, Initiative, Community, Passion, Learning and Ownership and we are seeking people who are aligned to these values and who can demonstrate them in the work that they do.

Why is this role important?
Our operation covers over 70+ schools (and growing) and we are always seeking like minded people to join our incredible team of 200+ part-time Community Connectors, the amazing people who open and close our schools whilst ensuring our customers receive great service and have all the help they need during their bookings.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

• Opening and closing your assigned local school/s in the evenings and weekends - you'll be a key holder for the school and will need to remain onsite throughout customer bookings
• Providing great customer service and communicating what’s happening at schools to the operations team
• Carrying out checks as necessary and some cleaning/tidying after bookings
• Setting up and clearing away tables and chairs e.g. during exam periods moving exam desk set ups, so that our events can run in bare spaces or other similar requirements, (training provided)

Things you'll have done before/have experience in:

• Offered exceptional customer service
• A flexible, organised, and timely approach to all your work - this helps us to ensure that our bookings run like clockwork.
• Providing feedback on what's working and what's not - you'll be our eyes and ears on the ground at the school and your feedback will be listened to and acted upon.
• This is a role where you may be working on site alone, or with other Community Connectors to manage larger usage. You will be supported by your line manager, training programme and an On Call team at all times. However, confidence and great communication skills will help you to succeed in this role
• Pursuing commitment to a social/community cause - our team are all committed to making the world a better place one way or another - if you think similarly then you'll have found a great team of like minded individuals!

As this role involves working in schools, employment is dependent on a clear enhanced DBS check that we will run.

Hours of Work: All team members are contracted to work set days per week and for this role you must be able to work weekend most weeks especially Sundays. Shift times will be scheduled between 4:30pm and 10:30pm Monday - Friday and anywhere between 7:45am until 22:30 on Saturdays or Sundays (shifts will be a max of 8 hours) and may also run later than this for large events so flexibility on this would be required.

Please note this is a part time role that would offer on average 5-15 hours per week.

Pay: £12.75 per hour

Benefits:

• Pension
• Annual leave entitlement
• A degree of flexibility - whilst you are contracted on certain days, other team members will do their best to swap shifts with you if needed
• Knowing that your work actively helps community groups and schools to thrive
• Access to development opportunities - some of our Head Office staff started off as Community Connectors and many more have moved into other leadership or coordinator roles.

Training and support:

You'll receive a full training programme to get you up and running at the school, followed by regular sessions with team leaders, operations managers and the wider School Space team, plus support from our On Call team during your shifts.
