| Planning and Budgeting |
- Supervise the execution of the department’s objectives, initiatives, plans, policies, and procedures.

| Air Traffic Control Services Management |
- Manage the safe, effective and efficient delivery of Air Traffic Control Services across the units, including Approach and Tower.
- Ensure that operational issues, temporarily or permanently affecting procedures are communicated to staff to maintain safety, awareness and performance.
- Initiating and maintaining a facility duty schedule.
- As directed, supervise and prepares written and oral reports for the presentation of communication officers to the ATS unit manager.

| Safety Monitoring & Reporting |
- Monitor the safety performance of the units and ensure that any breaches / issues are well documented and reported; ensure that proper action is being taken to make improvements when and where they are needed.
- Ensure that whenever modifications/new systems are being introduced for the provision of SANS Air Traffic Services, safety measures are in line with the SMS and that service fitness has been declared by the responsible individual and formally accepted in accordance with SANS procedures.
- Guide team to ensure that all ATS incidents with operational safety implications are fully investigated and follow up actions / recommendations are implemented in a timely fashion.
- Ensuring the operational readiness of facility equipment and associated NAVAIDs

| Compliance Management |
- Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures and controls across the Units to guarantee safety, legislative compliance and delivery of high-quality services in coordination with SQE and develop regular reports on the safety performance of the units.
- Ensure that all SANS Operational ATS procedures are being applied in accordance with the relevant legislation and regulatory requirements

| Training |
- Manage the tactical workforce planning and training activities within the units to ensure that sufficient competent staff is available and deployed to deliver ATC services in line with requirements.
- Ensure that all staff involved in the direct provision of ATS are fit and trained to the appropriate level of competence, and, where necessary, licensed to carry out their task. (Medical fitness, English proficiency, etc.)
- Developing and maintaining an FTP and FTM. (F. facility T. training M manual)

| Coordination and Relationship Management |
- Establish and maintain a close working relationship with appropriate military and civilian aviation agencies for the purpose of dealing and addressing matters affecting ATS service delivery.
- Maintain close links with Centers and Units to share system, performance and operational issues.
- Coordinate and liaise with respective airport management to develop procedures that complement each other, jointly develop procedures to permit projects to be undertaken and undertake joint assessment of hazards and the possible mitigation available.
- Maintaining secure control of all facility forms, records, and publications and ensures their accuracy, completeness, and distribution

| Risk Management |
- Ensure his role as authorized signatory of residual risk according to SANS SMS Manual requirements.

| Policies, Processes and Procedures |
- Support in monitoring day-to-day activities to ensure compliance with stipulated policies and procedures.
- Contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems and processes considering leading practices, changes in business environment, cost reduction and productivity improvement

| People Management |
- Conduct annual performance appraisal of direct subordinates to monitor their work performance and identify their training and developmental requirements.
- Actively participate in on-the-job training, mentoring, and coaching of subordinates
- Provide clear direction, prioritize tasks, assign, and delegate responsibility and monitor the workflow
