Job Description
Summary: Sartorius is a dynamic and innovative organization seeking talented individuals eager to contribute to breakthrough advances in bioprocessing. In this Corporate Research internship, you will contribute to the development of next‑generation bioprocessing technologies by applying multiphysics simulation and data‑driven optimization approaches.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute multiphysics and CFD simulations to investigate fluid flow, mass transfer, and heat transfer phenomena in bioprocessing systems
- Apply topology optimization, geometry optimization, and machine learning–driven algorithms to guide the design of bioreactors, mixers, and microfluidic platforms
- Create, implement, and validate custom algorithms for multi‑objective optimization problems (e.g., flow uniformity, mixing efficiency, shear minimization)
- Support prototype design by generating computational insights and communicating design recommendations to fluidics, additive manufacturing, advanced materials, and sensor/optical engineering teams
- Develop reduced‑order models or surrogate models to accelerate design iteration cycles
- Partner with cross‑functional teams—including fluidics, additive manufacturing, advanced materials, and sensor/optical engineering—to integrate simulation outcomes into product concepts
- Analyze results, document modeling approaches, and report progress weekly
- Engage in literature and technology scouting to identify novel computational methods and bioprocessing innovations relevant to Corporate Research
Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing a M.S., or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Computational Engineering, or a related technical discipline
- Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and mass transfer fundamentals
- Experience with multiphysics modeling tools (e.g., COMSOL Multiphysics, ANSYS Fluent, MStar‑CFD, SolidWorks)
- Experience in developing scripts or codes for simulation automation or optimization (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar)
- Familiarity with machine learning methods, design optimization, numerical methods, or data‑driven modeling
- Ability to collaborate with diverse engineering teams (fluidics, additive manufacturing, advanced materials, optical/sensor engineering, and chemical engineering)
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills; demonstrates robust problem‑solving capability
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively within a multidisciplinary research environment
- Strong initiative, intellectual curiosity, and results‑oriented mindset
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for conveying computational findings to audiences with varying technical backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications:
- Exposure to bioprocessing or life‑science systems (bioreactors, microfluidics, filtration, or mixing technologies) is a plus
- Experience with documentation and version‑control systems (e.g., Git) is a plus
