Job Description
Summary: Sallie Mae is dedicated to empowering students on their educational journeys. They are seeking a Summer Software Engineering Intern to develop and maintain software components, enhance user experiences, and gain hands-on experience with modern technologies in a supportive environment.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with senior engineers to develop and maintain software components, using OOP languages like Apex, Java ensuring robust and scalable solutions
- Engage in database design and management, employing Relational Databases to optimize data storage and retrieval
- Enhance user interfaces and user experiences by working on frontend development, leveraging HTML, CSS, and JavaScript technologies
- Gain hands-on experience with Azure DevOps for managing Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) pipelines, ensuring streamlined software delivery
- Contribute to the Salesforce Experience Cloud, assisting in the creation, customization, and maintenance of engaging web experiences
- Play an active role in Automation Testing, focusing on test case design, execution, and reporting to maintain the quality and reliability of our software products
- Collaborate effectively within an agile development team, participating in daily stand-ups, sprint planning, and retrospectives, while fostering a culture of innovation and efficiency
- Provide regular updates to the team and leadership on progress, challenges, and potential solutions, ensuring transparency and accountability
- Demonstrate a strong willingness to learn, adapt, and innovate while contributing to the enhancement of our student loan application website
Required Qualifications:
- Strong foundation in Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) languages such as Apex
- Experience in working with Relational Databases (such as SQL Server & Salesforce Objects)
- Experience with frontend technologies, including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering or related technical field
- Open to undergraduate level students with expected graduation dates of Dec 2026 - May 2027
- Self-motivated with strong initiative and curiosity about technology
- Adaptability and openness to learning
- Interest in enterprise-scale technology challenges and solutions
- Professional demeanor suitable for interaction with IT leadership and business stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous internship experience in technology
- Experience writing code using Object Oriented Programming (OOP) languages such as Apex, Java, Python
- Basic understanding of HTML/CSS and web development principles
