What is the opportunity?
As part of the Group Risk Management team, the Associate Director at Local Market Risk is responsible for providing independent and effective monitoring, control, and communications on the nature and extent of all material market risk and ensures the implementation and compliance with risk management policies and procedures.
The new hire will join as a member of the GRM Market Risk team responsible for oversight of equities derivatives in New York. Coverage includes equity derivatives structured products and flow.
You will partner with stakeholders across trading business, risk management and technology to ensure the implementation of and compliance with market risk policies and procedures.
What will you do?
Provide independent oversight for the Equity Derivatives trading businesses: structured equity products and flow. Become a subject matter expert on designated desks.
Manage the market risk reporting process and ensure the accuracy of key risk measurements.
Analyse complex derivatives transactions, assess resulting market risk exposures and hedging strategies.
Analyse key trading strategies and products to ensure they are in line with RBC’s risk tolerance and objectives.
Be the go-to person on designated desks including but not limited to: understanding key risks and P&L changes, soundness and completeness of risk processes, and proactive risk control framework development.
Monitor changes in portfolio and market to extract value-added insight for senior management. Highlight key market themes and events with risk relevance to coverage.
Review significant transactions to help facilitate business and ensure proper risk controls.
Develop, update, and enhance limit frameworks, stress testing and scenario analysis, risk reporting, dashboards, and analytical tools as derivatives risks evolve.
Review new business initiatives, new products, structured transactions, trading strategy changes, and methodology enhancements to assess market risk, regulatory considerations, governance requirements, and control implications.
Data analysis of large quantities of data, including ability to draw conclusions related to limits, approvals, and risk trends. Examine trends using advanced statistical and quantitative techniques.
Collaborate with trading teams to ensure cohesion on key risk issues: systems, limits, risk management.
Collaborate and coordinate among different stakeholders to meet enterprise/business line project deliverables including capital requirements and risk modernization projects.
Proactively leverage emerging AI tools and technologies to enhance workflows, drive process improvements, and deliver innovative solutions that create measurable value for risk teams and business partners.
What do you need to succeed?
Must Have
MS/MA, MBA or BS/BA with emphasis in finance, economics or a quantitative discipline.
7+ years’ experience in derivatives, market risk management, trading, or a related capital markets function.
Strong technology experience with Python and familiarity with SQL.
Ability to handle and prioritize a significant and diverse workload, with strong attention to detail.
Ability to communicate clearly to key relationship contacts.
Ability to work effectively in a demanding fast-paced environment.
Independent and Curious: Demonstrates the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, coupled with a natural curiosity and eagerness to explore and solve complex problems.
Nice to Have

The expected salary range for this particular position is $120,000-$200,000 (New York) depending on your experience, skills, and registration status, market conditions and business needs.
