Job Description
Summary: Roche is a leading biotechnology company, and they are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Automation Intern for Summer 2026. The intern will gain hands-on experience in executing, optimizing, and validating automated protein purification workflows while collaborating with automation engineers and protein scientists.
Responsibilities:
- Execute and evaluate automated protein expression and purification workflows using established liquid-handling systems
- Support automation-enabled sample preparation and method execution, including lysis, clarification, and re-array
- Assist with programming, running, and troubleshooting automated methods and associated instrumentation
- Collect and analyze run data to assess automation performance and identify sources of variability
- Document automated methods and findings, and prepare a final technical presentation summarizing performance and recommendations
Required Qualifications:
- Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student)
- Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student)
- Required Majors: Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related scientific or engineering discipline
- Ability to follow written protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) accurately
- Basic laboratory skills and comfort working in a wet-lab environment
- Data recording, organization, and basic analysis skills (e.g., spreadsheets, plotting, summarizing results)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to document work clearly and consistently
- Ability to communicate effectively and work productively in a collaborative team setting
Preferred Qualifications:

- Interest in laboratory automation, protein sciences, or high-throughput laboratory workflows
- Hands-on laboratory experience through coursework, research projects, or prior internships, with familiarity in basic biological or biochemical techniques
- Exposure to liquid-handling automation, scripting, or programming (e.g., Python) is a plus but not required
- Strong organizational and analytical skills, with attention to detail, documentation, and data interpretation
