Sr. NVH Technician at Rivian in Irvine, CA

Role Summary

We are seeking an NVH Development Technician to drive hands-on noise and vibration development within our NVH team. This is a development-focused role: you will instrument vehicles, run subjective and objective NVH evaluations, build and iterate on countermeasures, and work side-by-side with engineering staff to root-cause and resolve challenging prototype issues. Vehicle repair and part-swap work is part of the job, but it exists in service of development — enabling rapid build-test-learn cycles on prototype hardware. The ideal candidate brings strong measurement and diagnostic instincts, a collaborative attitude, and the ability to deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision while helping improve the quietness and overall quality of Rivian vehicles.

Responsibilities

• Vehicle NVH development: Troubleshoot, diagnose, and develop solutions to vehicle noise and vibration issues across full-vehicle and subsystem levels, iterating on countermeasures and assessing their effectiveness.- Instrumentation & measurement: Plan and install NVH instrumentation on development vehicles, configure data acquisition systems, and capture high-quality measurement data for engineering analysis.- Test execution: Conduct road, track, and facility-based NVH evaluations; perform subjective assessments and document findings to support engineering decisions.- Development support: Partner with engineering teams to enable rapid build-test-learn cycles, turning proposed design changes into testable vehicle configurations quickly.- Capability building: Maintain and improve NVH instrumentation, tooling, and workshop capability; contribute to test procedures and best practices.- Vehicle readiness: Perform repairs, part changes, and inspections needed to keep development vehicles available and in known configuration.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to root-cause vehicle NVH issues on prototype and development hardware, and to propose, build, and validate countermeasures.- Familiarity with NVH test methodologies (road and track evaluations, chassis dyno, static and operational testing) and the ability to execute test plans independently and repeatably.- Strong subjective evaluation skills, with the ability to describe, rate, and correlate vehicle NVH characteristics to measured data.- Experience fabricating, fitting, and iterating on development-level countermeasures (damping, isolation, sealing, absorption, bracketry) on prototype vehicles.- 5+ years of experience in automotive repair, prototype build, or a closely related technical field, with the ability to perform repairs, part swaps, and vehicle inspections in support of development work.- Strong understanding of vehicle systems, ideally EV architecture, with a focus on safety.- Organization & Work Ethic: Motivated self-starter with strong attention to detail, eagerness to learn, and the ability to support multiple development programs in a fast-paced environment.- Strong communication skills, clean driver's license, and ability to travel up to 20%.

Pay Disclosure

The Hourly rate range for this role is $51.44 - $64.30 for California based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.
