Manufacturing Engineer II - Body (Tooling &… at Rivian · Normal

Role Summary

The Manufacturing Engineer supports the Body Manufacturing Engineering team in designing, launching, and improving world-class body manufacturing systems. This role focuses on supporting daily dimensional management, tooling validation, and process stability. You will work on the manufacturing fl oor in our Normal, IL plant, assisting senior engineers with data analysis, fi xture adjustments, and process improvements to ensure high-quality vehicle production. This role is located at our Normal, IL facility and reports directly to a Sr. Manager, Manufacturing Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Dimensional Management: Assist in cross functional development of assembly datum schemes, shim management, and adjustments to meet GD&T requirements.
• Tooling & Process Support: Assist senior engineers with the design review, install, commissioning and validation of tooling fi xtures. Perform regular audits of equipment conditions and participate in troubleshooting production issues to improve tooling.
• Problem Solving: Root Cause builds issues of the product in a data driven way to improve form, fi t and fi nish by employing problem solving techniques. Drive improvements of body-in-white accuracy through the launch and ramp phase of the product.
• Data Analysis & Reporting: Oversee Measurement routines of inline and offl ine metrology systems at Rivian. Assist in the analysis of dimensional data (measurement systems, CMM reports, etc.) to identify trends.
• Documentation: Assist in the creation and maintenance of tooling certifi cation reports, Tool Repeatability, PLP documentation, and PFMEAs.
• Collaboration: Translate complex dimensional data from manufacturing issues into actionable insights for product design requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a similar technical fi eld (recent graduate or 1+ years of relevant experience).
• Foundational understanding of GD&T standards and the ability to interpret technical drawings.
• Basic knowledge of automotive body assembly processes (welding, riveting, bonding).
• Familiarity with 3D CAD software.
• Strong analytical mindset with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
• Excellent communication skills and a strong desire to work in a hands-on, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Ability to support fl oor-level activities and troubleshoot process issues under the guidance of senior team members.

Pay Disclosure

The salary range for this role is $78,200-$97,700 for Illinois based applicants. This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee’s position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, geographic location, shift, and organizational needs. The successful candidate may be eligible for annual performance bonus and equity awards.
