Job Description
Summary: Remitly is a company dedicated to transforming financial services for global customers. They are seeking a Software Development Engineer 1 for their Pricing Platform team, where the role involves contributing to data pipelines, cloud services, and production systems that optimize pricing across numerous corridors.
Responsibilities:
- Execute with quality: Build responsibly and with confidence by writing performant, well-tested, and maintainable code that meets team quality standards, including thorough unit tests, clear documentation, and consistent error handling
- Build with purpose: Contribute to platform components - data pipelines, orchestrated transformations, pricing services, and internal tooling - that power Remitly's real-time pricing decisions across thousands of global corridors
- Work across the stack: Move fluidly between backend services, data workflows, and the occasional customer- or operator-facing UI, picking up whichever layer the problem needs
- Learn and grow: Operate with increasing independence in code construction, testing, and deployments, actively seeking guidance from senior teammates and applying feedback to improve over time
- Be a cultural leader: Uphold Remitly's values as a foundation for how you collaborate, communicate, and grow - contributing to a team environment built on trust and shared purpose
- Collaborate constructively: Participate actively in team discussions, sprint rituals, and design reviews. Ask questions, raise blockers early, and document your code, pull requests, and test cases clearly
- Support operational excellence: Follow Remitly's Foundational Excellence standards across security, reliability, and quality, and contribute to identifying and resolving software defects through log review, metrics, and standard troubleshooting approaches on systems that serve high volumes of traffic
Required Qualifications:
- Strong proficiency in Python, with working knowledge of at least one frontend language (React JS) or a clear willingness to pick one up
- Fluency in SQL and experience using it to build reports, pipelines, or production transformations against real datasets
- Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure) - building and operating services, scheduled jobs, or data pipelines in production
- Exposure to - or genuine curiosity about - real-time, high-throughput production systems, and the reliability, monitoring, and cost tradeoffs that come with them
- Experience shipping at least one end-to-end project where you owned the backend and, ideally, a lightweight frontend or internal tool on top of it
- Familiarity with a range of data structures, algorithms, and software systems concepts, with a desire to deepen that knowledge over time
- An ability to work through uncertainty in code construction, testing, and troubleshooting, and to clarify where existing procedures or documentation need improvement
- We actively welcome career-changers and non-traditional paths where the production engineering work speaks for itself
