Job Description
Summary: Redwood Materials is focused on localizing a global battery supply chain that integrates recovery, reuse, and recycling. They are seeking a Power Electronics Intern to support the development of next-generation Pack Managers for Energy Storage Systems utilizing recycled batteries, specifically for AI Data Centers.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop high-voltage, high-power (~1500V, ~50kW) DC-DC resonant converters for recycled battery integration
- Optimize converter to achieve consistent soft-switching, ensuring high efficiency across a wide range of battery voltages during both charge and discharge modes
- Develop high-fidelity transformer models and conduct detailed trade-off analyses between power density, thermal constraints, and cost
- Prototype and validate power stages, performing bench testing to verify thermal performance and efficiency targets
Required Qualifications:
- MS or PhD candidate in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Electronics
- Deep theoretical and practical understanding of Resonant DC-DC converter modulation schemes (e.g., frequency modulation, phase-shift control)
- Expertise in magnetics design using Ansys Maxwell for transformer modeling, including inductance matrix extraction and detailed winding/core loss analysis
- Proficiency in simulation tools such as Simulink and LTspice for transient and steady-state circuit analysis
- Hands-on experience with Altium Designer for multi-layer PCB layout, specifically for high-power and high-voltage creepage/clearance requirements
