WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
Slate is looking for an energetic, organized, experienced SeniorDesign/Package Engineer-Seal to join our growing team. This role is responsible for developing, testing, and refining sealing components—such as door seals, frunk seals, gate seals, SUV panels roof, and window encapsulations—to prevent water, air, and noise, and dust from entering the vehicle. They specialize in elastomeric materials (rubber, TPE) and work closely with Tier 1 suppliers to ensure seals meet strict quality, durability, and NVH (Noise, Vibration, Harshness) standards.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO
Develop and guide the development of Seal Systems and components, ensuring interface compatibility across all vehicle systems.
Lead the team in engineering parts, assemblies, and attributes, ensuring feasibility, manufacturability, and assimilability into vehicles.
Responsible for total vehicle integration of all seal attribute requirements and feasibility at the vehicle level.
Identify and resolve integration and design issues during vehicle development.
Lead cross-functional Integration team meetings, collaborating with product development teams including systems, packaging, manufacturing, and service.
Manage Vehicle Technical Specifications and Functional Vehicle Targets, cascading technical requirements to parts, systems, and components.
Develop strategic and specific vehicle level targets and evaluate functional requirements against vehicle features at each development gate.
Provide guidance and constraints to Development Engineers and the organization as the product plan matures.
Expected responsibilities include Benchmarking, Vehicle Performance, Weight Management, Durability & Reliability, and others.
WHAT YOU BRING
Higher education degree in design engineering from an ABET accredited institution or equivalent experience.
8+ years of experience in vehicle development.
Demonstrates expert proficiency in CATIA V5.
Exhibits strong communication, team building, and relationship building skills.
Direct experience in developing or packaging seal systems.
Capable of leading teams and conducting meetings to navigate technical tradeoffs and achieve optimized solutions with meticulous attention to detail.
Possesses extensive knowledge of vehicle technicalities and the development process, including setting technical targets, assessing feasibility, and validating with statistical confidence, both virtually and physically.
Familiarity with NHTSA/FMVSS, CARB, EPA, and SAE.
Willingness and enthusiasm to thrive in a dynamic and demanding environment.
