Job Description
Summary: RA Capital is a leading provider of capital and services to innovators in the world, focused on improving human health and Planetary Health. As an AI Engineering Intern, you will work on real production systems to build AI/ML solutions that enhance investment analysis in biomedical and climate technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in designing and developing end-to-end AI applications, from prototype through deployment
- Build and iterate on AI agents, workflows, and tool integrations (e.g., MCP servers, agentic pipelines)
- Contribute to production-grade forecasting or classification systems with attention to latency, scalability, and robustness
- Help develop full-stack AI applications with both frontend and backend components
- Work with proprietary research data to train, evaluate, and improve ML or GenAI models
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and cross-functional collaboration with analysts and investors
Required Qualifications:
- Currently pursuing a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field
- Coursework or project experience in AI/ML (e.g., deep learning, NLP, reinforcement learning, computer vision)
- Strong Python programming skills
- Familiarity with JavaScript and/or Java
- Understanding of machine learning fundamentals (regression, classification, clustering, neural networks)
- Experience with at least one deep learning framework (PyTorch preferred)
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS preferred—SageMaker, Bedrock, or similar)
- Comfort with Git, containerization basics (Docker), and command-line workflows
- Excellent English communication skills for collaboration with team members and stakeholders
- Strong problem-solving abilities and investigative mindset
- Ability to work in a collaborative, mentorship-driven environment
- Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the internship
- Must be able to work out of our Boston office this summer
- Ability to join us on June 1st and commit full-time for 10-12 weeks
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior internship or meaningful project experience in software engineering
- Exposure to healthcare and/or finance domains is a plus
- Interest in or experience with agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Codex) and AI workflow frameworks
- Experience with LLM application development (prompt engineering, RAG, fine-tuning)
- Familiarity with agent frameworks, MCP integrations, or multi-agent architectures
- Experience building data pipelines or working with large-scale datasets
- Contributions to open-source projects or a strong personal project portfolio
