Location: Belfast, Northern Ireland

About Us:

Over 80 of the Fortune 100, 10,000 large enterprises, and millions of smaller organizations trust Proofpoint to stop threats, prevent data loss, and build resilience across their people and AI workflows. How We Work:

At Proofpoint you’ll be part of a global team that breaks barriers to redefine cybersecurity guided by our BRAVE core values:

Bold in how we dream and innovate

Responsive to feedback, challenges and opportunities

Accountable for results and best in class outcomes

Visionary in future focused problem-solving

Exceptional in execution and impact

The Role

We are looking for a Software Engineer II to join one of our Adaptive Email Data Loss Prevention (AEDLP) teams. The team owns Proofpoint’s Microsoft 365 add-in (currently for Outlook), which helps organisations stop sensitive data leaving through email. As we scale our services, deepen our integration with Microsoft, and align more closely with the wider Proofpoint ecosystem, you will help shape what comes next.

The team’s tech stack includes:

• Languages: Python 3 (JavaScript, React or other languages are a bonus)

• AWS: SQS, SNS, ECS, ECR, Lambda

• High-volume NoSQL and SQL databases, such as DynamoDB and Postgres

• Infrastructure as code: Terraform

• DevOps tooling: CircleCI, Docker, Git and GitHub

Responsibilities

We follow a DevOps culture: we build our services and we run them. Day to day, you will:

• Improve the scalability and reliability of our services

• Research security vulnerabilities and implement security measures

• Use production and product data to decide what the team builds next

• Improve the user experience of our add-in in Outlook (desktop and Outlook on the web) on Windows and Mac

• Help harden the “Human Security Layer”

• Ship code to production continuously via CI/CD

• Handle sensitive data with care, and build with security in mind

• Work with senior and staff engineers on complex problems, and independently on simpler ones

What you’ll bring

Essential

• Experience building and running production services in Python

• Experience with AWS and with SQL or NoSQL databases

• Familiarity with CI/CD, containers and infrastructure as code

• Good judgement when choosing technical approaches, and a security-first mindset

Desirable

• Experience with JavaScript/React

• Experience with data and infrastructure at scale

How we work

Integrating our product with email platforms such as Google and Microsoft is technically complex, especially at our scale and with our security requirements. Our standards for security, quality and availability are the highest, but we also foster psychological safety: we are comfortable with the unknown and love to experiment to find the right solution.

We use data to validate our decisions and measure our progress, and it shapes our goals and roadmap. We think you’ll thrive here if you focus on outcomes rather than outputs and use evidence to back your arguments and influence the team’s direction.

Our main challenge ahead is scaling, both vertically (the size of individual tenants) and horizontally (the number of tenants).
