Job Description
Summary: Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is a nonpartisan independent watchdog that works to expose waste and corruption in government. They are seeking an Associate Designer to contribute to visual storytelling by designing digital creative assets that inform and engage the public while ensuring cohesive brand expression across various platforms.
Responsibilities:
- Post and manage website content, including POGO articles and investigations, with an eye to consistency, readability, and audience engagement
- Build and deploy emails and e-newsletters using our email service provider EveryAction, collaborating with digital and creative to ensure accuracy and visual consistency
- Design graphics and light multimedia for website and digital engagement needs (such as for social media campaigns, website content, or digital ads)
- Assist with managing print projects, including: soliciting quotes, assisting with print-ready materials, and aggregating and incorporating feedback
- Contribute to website upkeep and content management
- Conduct photo and asset research as needed for internal and external projects
- Other duties as required to accomplish POGO’s mission
Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 1 year of professional graphic design experience—or demonstrated equivalent experience
- Portfolio demonstrating a strong sense of aesthetic quality, solid visual fundamentals, and familiarity with design software
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Creative problem-solver with a collaborative mindset
- Receptive to feedback and able to incorporate direction effectively
- Self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to take initiative and adapt in evolving environments
- Demonstrated commitment to working in a nonpartisan, collaborative, respectful manner with diverse stakeholders
- Commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with the Adobe Creative Cloud ecosystem (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) preferred
- Experience or familiarity creating content for social media campaigns a plus
- Experience or familiarity with email marketing platforms, such as MailChimp, Litmus, Constant Contact, or EveryAction, a plus
- Experience or familiarity with website content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress or Craft CMS a plus
- Familiarity with HTML/CSS a plus
